INTRODUCTION

ZAHA contain Azithromycin which belongs to a group of medicine called macrolide antibiotics. It is used to treat bacterial eye infections such as purulent bacterial conjunctivitis, trachoma conjunctivitis. Conjunctivitis is an irritation or inflammation of the conjunctiva which cover the white part of the eyeball. Conjunctivitis can be caused by allergies or bacterial or viral infection. Conjunctivitis can be extremely contagious and is spread by contact with eye secretion from someone who is infected. Symptoms include redness, itching and tearing of the eyes. It can also lead to discharge or crusting around the eye.

ZAHA is a broad-spectrum type of antibiotic. It is effective in killing many types of gram-positive bacteria, some types of gram-negative bacteria and other microorganisms. Always use this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you. You may experience blurred vision for some time after using this medicine. Do not drive or use machines until your vision is clear.

USES OF ZAHA

Treat bacterial eye infections such as

  • purulent bacterial conjunctivitis
  • trachoma conjunctivitis (ocular infection caused by bacteria called Chlamydia trachomatis)

HOW ZAHA WORKS

ZAHA inhibits the synthesis of essential protein required by bacteria to grow and multiply and thus prevents the infection from spreading.

Always use ZAHA exactly as your doctor has told you. Check the label for directions before use.

SIDE EFFECTS OF ZAHA

COMMON

  • transient eye discomfort (itching, burning, stinging)
  • blurred vision
  • sticky eye sensation
  • foreign body sensation

  • dry eye

  • discharge coming from your eye
  • changes to the surface of your eye
  • changes in your taste
  • hives and rash on your skin

HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS

Dry eye:

Wash your eyelids. Avoid places with a lot of air movement. Rest your eyes. Stay away from cigarette smoke. Drink more water. Try an omega-3 fatty acid supplement.

Eye pain:

Do not touch or rub your eyes. Wear sunglasses when outside. Drink enough water to stay hydrated. Take sufficient sleep to rest your body and eyes.

BREASTFEEDING

ZAHA is safe to use during breastfeeding. Consult your doctor before taking this medicine.

DRIVING AND USING MACHINES

Do not drive or operate machinery while taking this medicine, since it may cause blurred vision.

ALCOHOL

Consumption of alcohol is not recommended during treatment with ZAHA.

KIDNEY

ZAHA should be used with caution in patients suffering from active kidney diseases. Consult your doctor for advice.

LIVER

ZAHA should be used with caution in patients suffering from liver function impairment or active liver diseases. Consult your doctor for advice.

ALLERGY

Do not take ZAHA if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to azithromycin or any other ingredients in this medicine.

OTHERS

Tell your doctor if you have or had a condition such as,

  • suffer from any other eye infection
  • are using contact lens
  • bacterial conjunctivitis (symptoms includes discharge coming from the eye, eye redness, eye irritation)
