What ZAHA is used for?

It is used to treat,

  • purulent bacterial conjunctivitis
  • trachoma conjunctivitis (an infection of the eye caused by bacteria called Chlamydia trachomatis)

Talk to your doctor before using this medicine, if you:

  • are allergic to Azithromycin or any other macrolide antibiotic 
  • suffer from any other eye problems
  • are using contact lens
  • If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor for advice before using this medicine
  • This medicine can be used in children and adolescents
  • You may have blurred vision for a short time after using your drops. Wait until your vision is normal before driving or using any machine
  • Tell your doctor if you are using any other medicine used to treat eye problems or infections
  • Always use this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you
  • This medicine is intended to be used in the eye
  • Do not use your medicine for more than three days even if you still have some residual signs of your eye infection
  • Apply this medicine into each affected eye, take care not to touch the eye and eyelids with the dropper tip of the single-dose container

If you use more ZAHA

  • If you take more ZAHA, talk to a doctor or go to a hospital straight away

If you forget to use ZAHA

  • Do not use a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose

If you stop using ZAHA

  • Do not stop using this medicine, unless told by your doctor

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

Very Rare
  • itching, burning or stinging of the eye
  • blurred vision
  • serious allergic reaction which causes swelling of the face or throat (angioedema), inflammation of the conjunctiva (conjunctivitis)
  • inflammation of the cornea (keratitis)
  • itchy skin on the eyelids (eczema eyelids)
  • dry, red, swelling of the eyelids (eyelid oedema)
  • eye allergy, eye watering
  • redness of the eyelids or conjunctiva
