INTRODUCTION
VENIZ XR 37.5MG CAPSULE contains Venlafaxine which belongs to the group of medicines called Antidepressants. It is used in adults to treat depression, anxiety disorders and panic attacks (fear).
Depression is a mental health disorder characterized by persistant depressed mood, lack of interest, feeling of guilt, sleep disturbances or sucidial thoughts for a prolonged period (more than 2 weeks) that causes significant impairment in performing day-to-day activities.
Before taking VENIZ XR 37.5MG CAPSULE, inform your doctor if you have diabetes or any liver, kidney or heart problems. You must also inform your doctor if you have or have a family history of bipolar disorder, mania or epilepsy. Do not take VENIZ XR 37.5MG CAPSULE if you are pregnant or breastfeeding without consulting your doctor.
The most common side effects of taking VENIZ XR 37.5MG CAPSULE are headache, dizziness, drowsiness, lack of sleep, dry mouth and sexual problems. Consult your doctor if any of these side effects worsen.
USES OF VENIZ XR 37.5MG CAPSULE
It is used in adults to treat:
- Depression
- Anxiety disorders (both generalized and social-anxiety)
- Panic attacks (fear)
HOW VENIZ XR 37.5MG CAPSULE WORKS
VENIZ XR 37.5MG CAPSULE is a potent antidepressant drug. It contains a medicine called venlafaxine which is a selective serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (SSNRI). It acts by increasing the levels of certain chemicals (serotonin and norepinephrine) within the brain that elevates your mood and stabilizes mental health. As a result, it makes you feel active and energetic and reduces unnecessary fear and anxiety.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE
Take VENIZ XR 37.5MG CAPSULE with food or as advised by your physician. Swallow the medicine with a glass of water. Do not cursh or chew the medicine.
Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration of theray for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.
Do not stop taking VENIZ XR 37.5MG CAPSULE abruptly as it may lead to withdrawal symptoms such as aggressiveness, tiredness, dizziness, sleeplessness, nightmares, dry mouth, nervousness, agitation, confusion or ringing in the ears.
SIDE EFFECTS OF VENIZ XR 37.5MG CAPSULE
COMMON
- dizziness, headache, drowsiness
- insomnia (lack of sleep)
- nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, decreased appetite, constipation
- dry mouth
- sweating (including night sweats)
- confusion, agitation, nervousness, abnormal dreams
- lack of orgasm, decreased sex drive, problems in erection or sperm release

UNCOMMON
- overactivity, racing thoughts, and mania
- hallucinations
- loss of balance, involuntary movements of the muscles
- feeling dizzy (mainly when standing up too quickly)
RARE
Stop taking VENIZ XR 37.5MG CAPSULE and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:
- signs of allergic reactions (such as skin rash, itching, swellling of the face, lips, tongue and throat which causes difficulty in breathing or swallowing)
- severe allergic skin reactions with blistering and peeling of skin
- signs of serotonin syndrome (feeling agitated, hallucinations, confusion, loss of consciousness, fast heartbeat, feeling dizzy, increased sweating, flushing, tremors, stiff muscles, or muscle twitching, loss of coordination, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or seizures)
- signs of Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome (such as fever, fast heartbeat, sweating, severe muscle stiffness, confusion, increased muscle enzymes)
- signs of infection, such as high temperature, chills, shivering, headaches, sweating, and flu-like symptoms (may be a sign of blood disorders)
- unexplained weakness, muscle pain, or tenderness (may be a sign of rhabdomyolysis)
- worsening of depression, suicidal thoughts or behavior
- increased signs of bleeding or bruising
- problems in vision (such as blurred vision, dilated pupils)
- black tarry or bloody stools
HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS
Dizziness:
Try to rest and relax. Get enough sleep. Avoid driving or operating any tools or machines completely while you are feeling dizzy. Consult your doctor if your dizziness worsens.
Constipation:
Eat plenty of fiber rich foods such as fresh fruits, vegetables, and cereals. Drink plenty of fluids. Exercise more regularly. Consult your doctor if this side effect bothers you.
Nausea:
Take VENIZ XR 37.5MG CAPSULE with or just after meals. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating oil rich or spicy foods. Consult your doctor if your nausea worsens.
WARNING & PRECAUTIONS
PREGNANCY
VENIZ XR 37.5MG CAPSULE should be used in pregnant women only if considered necessary by the physician. Your doctor will evaluate the risks and benefits of the therapy and prescribes you with this medicine only if the benefits overweigh the risk to the growing baby. Therefore, consult your doctor before taking it.
BREASTFEEDING
VENIZ XR 37.5MG CAPSULE may pass through the breast milk. Therefore, it should be used in breastfeeding women only if considered necessary by the physician. Therefore, consult your doctor before taking it.
DRIVING AND USING MACHINES
Do not drive or operate any heavy tools or machines if you feel dizzy or sleepy after taking VENIZ XR 37.5MG CAPSULE.
ALCOHOL
Avoid consumption of alcohol while taking VENIZ XR 37.5MG CAPSULE.
KIDNEY
VENIZ XR 37.5MG CAPSULE should be used with caution in patients with kidney problems. Therefore, consult your doctor before taking it.
LIVER
VENIZ XR 37.5MG CAPSULE should be used with caution in patients with liver problems. Therefore, consult your doctor before taking it.
ALLERGY
Do not take VENIZ XR 37.5MG CAPSULE if you are allergic to Venlafaxine.
HEART DISEASE
VENIZ XR 37.5MG CAPSULE should be used with caution in patients with heart diseases (such as high blood pressure or abnormal heartbeat). Therefore, consult your doctor before taking it.
OTHERS
Before taking VENIZ XR 37.5MG CAPSULE, inform your doctor if you:
- have or ever had any bleeding problems
- have or have a family history of various mental illness (such as bipolar disorder, mania, and hypomania)
- have diabetes
- have ever felt extremely sad with suicidal thoughts or behaviour
- have or ever had seizures (fits)
- have low blood sodium levels (causing tiredness, confusion, and muscle weakness)
- have glaucoma
Use in pediatrics:
VENIZ XR 37.5MG CAPSULE is generally not recommended for use in children and adolescents (aged below 18 years). Therefore, consult your doctor before administration.
Use in geriatrics:
VENIZ XR 37.5MG CAPSULE should be used with caution in elderly patients. Therefore, consult your doctor before taking it.
INTERACTIONS
A. Drug-Drug interactions –
Before taking VENIZ XR 37.5MG CAPSULE, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines such as:
- other medicines used to treat depression such as monoamine oxidase inhibitors (Ex. moclobemide, isocarboxazid, phenelzine and tranylcypromine), tricyclic antidepressants (Ex. amitriptyline, nortriptyline), lithium, fluoxetine, sertraline, citalopram, escitalopram etc.
- buprenorphine (a medicine used for pain relief or opiod dependence)
- linezolid (an antibiotic used to treat bacterial infection)
- sibutramine (a medicine used for weight loss)
- intravenous methylene blue (used to treat abnormal methemoglobin levels in blood)
- medicines used to treat migraine headaches (such as sumatriptan, zolmitriptan)
- fentanyl (an opioid analgesic used for pain relief)
- tramadol (used for pain relief)
- tryptophan (an aminoacid used for maintaing mental health)
- amphetamines (used as CNS stimulants) Ex. dexamphetamine and lisdexamphetamine
- dextromethorphan (a cough medicine)
- methadone (a medicine used to treat pain or drug addiction)
- pentazocaine (an anesthetic used to cause numbness before surgeries)
- St. John’s Wort (a herbal medicine used to treat depression)
- medicines that can affect blood clotting (such as aspirin or warfarin)
- medicines used to treat psychotic disorders (Ex. chlorpromazine, prochlorperazine, trihexiphenidyl, haloperidol or risperidone)
- medicines used to treat heart problems (Ex. quinidine, amiodarone, sotalol, metoprolol or defatilide)
- medicines used to treat bacterial infections (Ex. erythromycin or moxifloxacin)
- antihistamines (used to treat allergies) Ex. fexofenadine, levocetirizine
- medicines used to treat fungal infection (Ex. ketoconazole)
Overdosage:
If you or anyone else accidentally consumed more VENIZ XR 37.5MG CAPSULE, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. Symptoms of overdosage might include fast heartbeat, sleepiness, blurred vision, fits and vomiting.

What to do if I forget to take a dose of VENIZ XR 37.5MG CAPSULE?
