INTRODUCTION

ULCOAT O SUSPENSION is a combination of Oxetacaine and Sucralfate which belongs to the group of medicines called Anesthetic Antacids and Ulcer Protectives respectively. It is used to treat and prevent stomach ulcers, acidity and heartburn. It can also be used to treat inflammation of gut caused due to other reasons apart from ulcer (such as H. pylori infection).

ULCOAT O SUSPENSION should be taken at least 1 hour before meals. Along with the treatment, eat simple foods and avoid consumption of alcohol. Do not take other antacid medications along with ULCOAT O SUSPENSION without consulting your doctor as it may reduce the effectiveness of this medicine.

Before taking ULCOAT O SUSPENSION inform your doctor if you have diabetes, high blood pressure, thyroid problems or liver problems. You must also inform your doctor if you have any blockage or obstruction in the gut or having delayed gastric emptying due to any gut surgery.

ULCOAT O SUSPENSION is not recommended for use in patients with severe kidney problems. Consult your doctor before taking this medicine if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

The most common side effect of taking ULCOAT O SUSPENSION is constipation. Consult your doctor if this symptom troubles you.

USES OF ULCOAT O SUSPENSION

• Treats and prevents stomach ulcer, acidity and heartburn
• Treats stomach inflammation (caused due to H. pylori infection)

HOW ULCOAT O SUSPENSION WORKS

ULCOAT O SUSPENSION contains two medicines namely sucralfate and oxetacaine. Sucralfate is an ulcer protective agent. It forms a protective layer over the ulcer lesions, giving it a sustained protection against the penetration of stomach acid and other irritants or enzymes (such as alcohol, pepsin and bile). This lessens the chances of further tissue damage which ultimately prevents the exacerbation of ulcers lesions.

Oxetacaine is a local anesthetic agent. Following oral administration, it reduces pain sensation from the inflamed gut tissues (or ulcer tissues). Collectively, this medicine reduce the unpleasant symptoms of the digestive tract such as acidity, heartburn and stomach ulcers.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

ULCOAT O SUSPENSION should be taken at least 1 hour before meals. Shake the medicine well before use.

Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration of therapy for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.

Nausea or vomiting:

Try to take ULCOAT O SUSPENSION with or just after meals. Stick to simple meals and avoid oil rich or spicy foods. Consult your doctor if nausea worsens.

Eat plenty of fiber-rich foods such as fresh fruits, vegetables and cereals. Drink plenty of water. Exercise more regularly. Consult your doctor if this side effect troubles you.

PREGNANCY

The safety and efficacy of ULCOAT O SUSPENSION have not been established during pregnancy. Therefore, ULCOAT O SUSPENSION should be used in pregnant women only if it is considered necessary by the physician.

BREASTFEEDING

ULCOAT O SUSPENSION should be used with caution in breastfeeding women. Therefore, consult your doctor before taking it.

DRIVING AND USING MACHINES

Do not drive or operate any heavy tools or machines if your ability is affected by ULCOAT O SUSPENSION.

ALCOHOL

Avoid consumption of alcohol while taking ULCOAT O SUSPENSION as it may worsen your existing condition.

KIDNEY

ULCOAT O SUSPENSION is not recommended for use in patients with severe kidney problems. Therefore, consult your doctor before taking it.

LIVER

ULCOAT O SUSPENSION should be used with caution in patients with liver problems. Therefore, consult your doctor before taking it.

ALLERGY

Talk to your doctor before taking ULCOAT O SUSPENSION if you are allergic to Oxetacaine or Sucralfate.

LUNGS

ULCOAT O SUSPENSION should be used with caution in patients with breathing problems. Therefore, consult your doctor before taking it.

INTERACTIONS

A. Drug-Drug interactions:

Before taking ULCOAT O SUSPENSION, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines such as:

• antacids (medicines used to neutralize stomach acids) Ex. aluminium hydroxide, magnesium hydroxide
• medicine used to prevent blood clots (Ex. warfarin)
• abacavir (a medicine used to treat HIV infection)
• albendazole (a medicine used to treat gut infections)
• alfuzosin (a medicine used to treat enlarged prostate)
• aceclofenac, alfentanil (medicines used for pain relief)
• medicines used to treat bacterial infections (such as tetracyclines, ciprofloxacin)
• cimetidine (a medicine used to treat stomach ulcer)
• phenytoin (a medicine used to treat epilepsy)
• digoxin (a medicine used to treat irregular heartbeat)

Overdosage:

If you or anyone else accidentally took more ULCOAT O SUSPENSION, consult your doctor immediately. Symptoms of overdosage might include stomach pain, nausea and vomiting.
