What U FRAG 5000 IU is used for?

It is indicated for treatment of acute occlusions of blood vessels caused by blood clots such as:

  • peripheral vascular occlusion, i.e. blood clots blocking the blood vessel system of the extremities
  • severe pulmonary embolism, i.e. blood clots in lungs

It can be used to dissolve blood clots that develop in shunts of dialysis patients

Talk to your Doctor, if you:

  • are allergic or hypersensitive to Urokinase or any of the other ingredients of this medicine
  • suffer from mild blood coagulation disturbances
  • suffer from slightly raised blood pressure
  • have a slight reduction in the number of blood platelets
  • have recently had an operation other than opening of the chest cavity or have undergone an operation on the head or spine
  • have suspected blood clots in the left ventricle of the heart (e.g. mitral stenosis with atrial fibrillation)
  • have low-risk pulmonary embolism (blood clot in the lungs)
  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor for advice before taking this medicine
  • Ask your doctor for advice before giving this medicine to your children
  • Driving and operating machinery is not recommended during treatment with this medicine

Tell your doctor if you are taking,

  • heparin and coumarin derivates (used to prevent formation of blood clots)
  • acetylsalicylic acid (aspirin), non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs abciximab (prevents blood clot formation after surgery of blood vessels around the heart)
  • allopurinol, clofibric acid derivates, clopidogrel, cytostatic agents
  • dextrans, dipyridamole, ticlopidine, tetracycline, valproic acid, thiouracils and sulfonamides
  • p-aminobenzoic acid, epsilon aminocaproic acid, tranexamic acid (substances that inhibit the dissolution of blood clots)
  • U FRAG 5000 IU will only be given to you by doctors or nurse
  • It is administered into a vein

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

  • bleeding at injection sites or from wounds, bruising
  • nose bleeding, bleeding gums
  • small amounts of blood in the urine
  • transient elevated liver enzymes
  • drop in hematocrit (percentage of red blood cells in blood)
  • bleeding of retroperitoneum, peritoneum, stomach, bowel, of organs of the urinary or reproduction system or inside the head
  • fever, chills
  • life-threatening bleeding complications: retroperitoneum, peritoneum, stomach, bowel of organs of the urinary or reproduction system, inside the head or liver bleeding in muscle or organs
  • allergic reactions: skin reactions (flush, urticaria), shortness of breath, chest thighness and low blood pressure
  • life-threatening allergic reaction
