INTRODUCTION

TRIGAN TABLET is a combination of Dicyclomine, and Paracetamol which belongs to the group of medicines called Antispasmodics, Analgesic and Anti-pyretic respectively. It is used for the treatment of stomach cramps, renal and biliary colic, as well as pain from gynaecologic or surgical conditions. It is also used to treat functional bowel disease and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).

Avoid consuming alcohol while taking TRIGAN TABLET, as it may increase the side effects. TRIGAN TABLET is not recommended in patients with an unstable cardiovascular condition with acute haemorrhage, myasthenia gravis, glaucoma, obstructive uropathy, obstructive disease of the gastrointestinal tract, severe ulcerative colitis, or reflux esophagitis.

TRIGAN TABLET should be used with caution in patients with severe liver and kidney disease, hypertension, coronary heart disease, congestive heart failure, cardiac tachyarrhythmia, psychosis, and delirium (such as elderly patients and/or in patients with mental illness), incomplete intestinal obstruction (the small intestine partially or totally blocked), patients with salmonella dysentery, ulcerative colitis (inflammatory bowel disease), prostatic hypertrophy (prostate gland enlargement), hyperthyroidism, alcoholism, and in patients who take painkillers often for headache, etc.

TRIGAN TABLET should be used with caution in pregnant women, unless considered necessary. TRIGAN TABLET is not recommended for use by breastfeeding women. TRIGAN TABLET is not recommended for use by children under 10 years of age. TRIGAN TABLET should be used with caution by elderly patients.

The most common side effects of taking TRIGAN TABLET are hypersensitivity reactions, dry mouth, upset stomach, vomiting, constipation, and gas or bloating. Contact your doctor if any of the symptoms get worse.

USES OF TRIGAN TABLET

  • Treats stomach cramps, renal and biliary colic, as well as pain from gynaecologic or surgical conditions
  • Treats functional bowel disease and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)

HOW TRIGAN TABLET WORKS

TRIGAN TABLET is an antispasmodic works by relaxing the muscles in your stomach and gut (intestine). It prevents unexpected muscular contractions (spasms). It also reduces bloating, pain, cramps, and discomfort. Paracetamol is analgesics and antipyretic as well works by inhibiting both COX-1 and COX-2 enzyme and prevents prostaglandin synthesis, thus reliefs pain.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

Take TRIGAN TABLET as advised by your physician. With a glass of water, take the tablet. Do not crush or chew the medicine. Depending on your age, body weight, disease condition, your doctor will fix the correct dose and duration for you.

SIDE EFFECTS OF TRIGAN TABLET

COMMON

  • dizziness, drowsiness
  • dry mouth
  • vision blurred
  • nausea
  • weakness and nervousness

Stop taking TRIGAN TABLET and contact your physician immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:

  • serious allergic reaction such as rashes, hives, itching, red, swollen, blistered, shortness of breath, wheezing, cough, difficulty breathing, swallowing, or talking, swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, legs and arms
  • changes in blood cell types and numbers. If you notice an increase in the number of nosebleeds, or notice that you bruise easily, or get more infections
  • fluttering or pounding in your chest, rapid or slow heartbeats
  • hallucinations, anxiety, unusual thoughts, or actions
  • difficulty with speech or memory
  • difficulties in muscle movements or balance
  • diarrhoea, severe constipation, or worsening bowel issues
  • difficulty swallowing
  • where a dicyclomine injection was administered, there is bruising, swelling, or pain
  • dizziness, confusion, intense thirst, decreased urine or sweating are all symptoms of dehydration

HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS

Constipation

Consume a lot of foods high in fibre, such as grains, fresh fruits, and vegetables. Drink water and exercise regularly. Contact your doctor if constipation persists.

Diarrhea

Drink plenty of water and fruit juice to keep yourself hydrated. Contact your doctor if the diarrhoea did not improve.

Dizziness Or Drowsiness

Try to rest and relax. Get enough sleep. Avoid driving or operate machinery if you feel drowsiness or dizziness. Avoid alcohol consumption as it aggravates dizziness or drowsiness. Contact your doctor if dizziness or drowsiness worsen.

Nausea And Vomiting

Take the medicine, with or just after a meal. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating oily or spicy food. If the nausea does not improve, consult your doctor.

DRIVING AND USING MACHINES
Use with Caution

Do not drive or operate any machines, while taking TRIGAN TABLET, or things that require mental alertness, as it may cause blurred vision or drowsiness.

ALCOHOL
Consult your doctor

Avoid consumption of alcohol while taking TRIGAN TABLET, as it may increase the side effects.

KIDNEY
Use with Caution

TRIGAN TABLET should be used with caution in patients with severe kidney disease. Contact your doctor before taking TRIGAN TABLET.

LIVER
Use with Caution

TRIGAN TABLET should be used with caution in patients with severe liver disease. Contact your doctor before taking TRIGAN TABLET.

ALLERGY
Contraindicated

Do not take TRIGAN TABLET if you are allergic to dicyclomine, or paracetamol or to other ingredients of this medicine.

HEART DISEASE
Consult your doctor

USE IN GERIATRICS
Use with Caution

TRIGAN TABLET should be used with caution in elderly patients. Contact your doctor before taking TRIGAN TABLET.

OTHERS

TRIGAN TABLET is not recommended for use if you have:

  • myasthenia gravis
  • glaucoma
  • obstructive uropathy
  • obstructive disease of the gastrointestinal tract
  • severe ulcerative colitis
  • reflux esophagitis

Before taking TRIGAN TABLET, inform your doctor if you have:

  • heat prostration (such as fever and heat stroke because of decreased sweating)
  • psychosis and delirium (such as elderly patients and/or in patients with mental illness)
  • incomplete intestinal obstruction (small intestine partially or totally blocked)
  • patients with salmonella dysentery
  • ulcerative colitis (inflammatory bowel disease)
  • prostatic hypertrophy (prostate gland enlargement)
  • hyperthyroidism
  • suffered from alcoholism
  • take painkillers often for headache

INTERACTIONS

A. Drug-Drug interactions:

Tell your doctor if you have recently taken any other medicines, including medicines obtained without a prescription, vitamin supplement or herbal products:

  • antiglaucoma agents
  • other drugs with anticholinergic activity such as amantadine, antiarrhythmic agents of class I (Ex. quinidine), antihistamines, antipsychotic agents (Ex. phenothiazines), benzodiazepines, MAO inhibitors, narcotic analgesics (Ex. meperidine), nitrates and nitrites, tricyclic antidepressants, sympathomimetic drugs, and other medications with anticholinergic effects
  • digoxin (medicine used for heart failure)
  • warfarin (prevents blood clot)
  •  metoclopramide or domperidone (medicine used to prevent nausea and vomiting)
  • cholestyramine (medicine used to treat high cholesterol levels)
  • imatinib (medicine used to treat leukaemia and some stomach tumours)

Overdosage:

If you or anyone else accidentally take too much of TRIGAN TABLET, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. Signs and symptoms of overdose may include headache, nausea, vomiting, blurred vision, dilated pupils, hot, dry skin, dizziness, dryness of the mouth, difficulty in swallowing, CNS stimulation including convulsion, loss of appetite, stomach pain and liver damage.
