What TRICINOD is used for?

TRICINOD is used to,

  • treat high blood pressure (hypertension)
  • treat heart failure
  • help reduce the fluid retention that occurs with some kidney or liver diseases
  • treat diabetes insipidus

Talk to your doctor before taking this medicine, if you:

  • are allergic to Chlorthalidone, Cilnidipine and Telmisartan or any of the other ingredients of this medicine
  • have severe kidney or liver problems
  • have low blood levels of potassium and sodium
  • have high blood levels of calcium
  • have ever had gout or kidney stones
  • suffer from diabetes mellitus (increased levels of sugar in the blood)
  • are not passing any urine at all
  • have high cholesterol levels
  • have Addison’s disease (which is a condition where your adrenal gland is not producing enough steroids)
  • have heart problems such as severe aortic stenosis, cardiogenic shock
  • have recent history of unstable angina or MI
  • are elderly
  • Talk to your doctor if you are pregnant or breast feeding or planning to become pregnant before taking this medicine
  • Your doctor will choose a suitable dose based on your child’s age and weight
  • Some people feel dizzy or tired when taking this medicine. If you feel dizzy or tired, do not drive or operate machinery

Tell your doctor if you are taking:

  • digoxin, used for heart failure
  • lithium, used for mental illness
  • medicines used to treat pain and arthritis, called non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS), including cox-2 inhibitors
  • ramipril, quinidine used to treat your high blood pressure or heart problem
  • rifampicin, erythromycin, amphotericin used to treat infections
  • allopurinol, used to treat gout
  • carbenoxolone, used to treat ulcers
  • calcium salts or vitamin D - used for replacement therapy
  • vasodilators (for example - bosentan)
  • diuretic
  • Take TRICINOD exactly as your doctor tells you to take it
  • Take this tablet one time each day at the same time
  • Take TRICINOD with or without food

If you take too much TRICINOD

  • If you take too much TRICINOD call your doctor or go to the nearest hospital immediately

If you miss a dose of TRICINOD

  • If you miss a dose of TRICINOD take it as soon as you remember
  • If it is close to your next dose, do not take the missed dose
  • Take the next dose at your regular time

If you stop taking TRICINOD

  • Do not stop taking your tablets suddenly unless your doctor advice you to do so

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.


  • muscles weakness
  • irregular heartbeat


  • dizziness
  • swelling of face, lips, eyelids, tongue, hands and feet 
  • fast heartbeat


  • swelling of the face, tongue, throat
  • difficulty breathing
  • blistering of the skin or rash


  • low blood levels of potassium which can cause muscle weakness, muscle twitching or abnormal heartbeat
  • increased blood levels of uric acid
  • increased blood levels of cholesterol
  • low levels of sodium which can cause tiredness, confusion, muscle twitching, fits or coma
  • low levels of magnesium
  • high blood sugar levels which can cause tiredness, weakness or feeling thirsty
  • nettle rash or skin rash
  • low blood pressure which may make you feel dizzy when you stand up
  • dizziness
  • loss of appetite
  • upset stomach
  • impotence in men


  • sinus pain and congestion (sinusitis)
  • back pain
  • diarrhea


  • gout which causes pain and swelling in the joints


  • increased calcium in the blood which can cause agitation, sore eyes, abdominal pain
  • sugar in the urine (this would show up when your doctor or nurse tests your urine)
  • worsening of diabetes
  • yellowing of the skin or eyes caused by liver or blood problems (jaundice)
  • increased sensitivity of your skin to sunlight
  • abnormal heartbeat the symptoms of which include palpitations and fainting
  • pins and needles
  • headache
  • feeling or being sick
  • stomach pain, constipation and diarrhoea
  • reduction in blood platelets which increases the risk of bruising or bleeding
  • severe reduction in the number of white blood cells which makes infection more likely
  • an abnormally high amount of eosinophils (type of white blood cell) in the blood
  • breathing problems
  • problems with your kidneys


  • muscle pain



  • low levels of chloride in the blood, symptoms include dry mouth, thirst, gastrointestinal disturbances (including nausea, vomiting), weakness, lethargy, drowsiness, restlessness, seizures, confusion, headache, muscle pains or cramps, hypotension
  • inflammation of the pancreas which causes severe stomach and back pain
