INTRODUCTION

TRAVACOM is a combination of Timolol and Travoprost which belongs to the group of medicines called Beta-blockers and Prostaglandin analogs respectively. TRAVACOM is indicated to decrease the elevated pressure in the eye among adult patients with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension who are insufficiently responsive to topical beta blockers or prostaglandin analogues.

Ocular hypertension is an eye condition in which the pressure within the eye exceeds the normal range (above 16mmHg). Open-angle glaucoma is a chronic, progressive eye condition primarily caused due to elevated intraocular pressure (pressure in the eyes). It can lead to permanent loss of vision if not treated properly. Symptoms include intense eye pain or tenderness, blurred vision, eye redness or itching and headache.

Timolol is a beta blocker which works by reducing the production of fluid within the eye and travoprost is a prostaglandin analogue which works by increasing the outflow of fluid (aqueous fluid) from the eye. Collectively, they reduce the elevated pressure within the eye.

Before using TRAVACOM, inform your doctor if you have any respiratory or heart disease. If you wear soft contact lenses, apply TRAVACOM at least 15 minutes before you wear your lens. Do not use this medicine directly on your eyes while wearing your contact lenses in. If you are pregnant or trying to become pregnant, avoid direct exposure of TRAVACOM. If any of the medicine encounters with your skin, immediately wash it off with soap and water.

TRAVACOM is also not recommended for use in breastfeeding mothers and in children and adolescents (aged below 18 years) due to lack of safety and effectiveness. The most common side effects of using TRAVACOM are eye redness, pain, itching, or swelling, inflammation of the eyelids, blurred vision, and eye dryness. It can also lead to a permanent change in the color of the iris or increase the length, thickness, color and/or number of your eyelashes. Contact your doctor if any of the symptom bothers you.

USES OF TRAVACOM

  • To decrease elevated pressure in the eye among adult patients with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension (who are insufficiently responsive to topical beta blockers or prostaglandin analogues)

HOW TRAVACOM WORKS

TRAVACOM effectively reduces elevated pressure in the eye, where timolol acts by decreasing the production of fluid in the eye (aqueous humor) and travoprost acts by increasing the drainage of aqueous humor from the eye. Collectively they decrease the elevated pressure within the eye.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

Use TRAVACOM as advised by your physician. It is for ophthalmic use only. Instill the prescribed amount of the medicine into your eye(s). Follow the following steps while using TRAVACOM:

  • Wash your hands thoroughly before application
  • Tilt your head slightly backwards and gently pull down your lower eyelid
  • Gently squeeze the bottle and instill the medicine drop wise into your eye
  • Close your eyes and gently press the corner of your eye with a finger for 2 minutes to avoid leakage of the medicine from your eye
  • If necessary, repeat the same steps for the other eye
  • Close the bottle and wash your hands

Do not touch the tip of the dropper with your fingertips, eyelids, or other parts of the eye surface to avoid the risk of contamination. Do not use TRAVACOM for more than 4 weeks after opening it to prevent infections. Your doctor will decide the correct dose for you depending upon your condition. Continue to use TRAVACOM, if your doctor tells you to do so, to obtain better results.

FAQs ABOUT TRAVACOM

Can TRAVACOM be used to treat high blood pressure?

No. TRAVACOM is only used to reduce increased pressure in the eye. Although timolol is a beta-blocker medicine, when given as an ophthalmic solution (eye drops), it helps in reducing only the elevated intraocular pressure in the eye. However, if you have an elevated blood pressure, contact your doctor for a suitable antihypertensive medicine. Avoid concomitant use of TRAVACOM with other antihypertensive medicine or beta-blockers on your own without consulting your doctor.

Can TRAVACOM cause bradycardia (slow heartbeat)?

Yes. TRAVACOM can cause decrease in heartbeat in some individuals, although not everybody gets them. Contact your doctor if you are experiencing any unusual symptoms such as breathing difficulty or abnormal heart rhythm etc. Before using TRAVACOM inform your doctor about previous medical history related to heart.

Can TRAVACOM cause hair loss?

TRAVACOM has increased ability to alter the pattern of a normal hair growth cycle. Although excessive hair growth and abnormal growth of eye lashes are more prevalent among patients, it can also cause hair loss (alopecia) in some individuals. Contact your doctor before using TRAVACOM.

Can TRAVACOM cause headache?

Yes. TRAVACOM can cause headache in some individuals. Rest and relax. Try to drink lot of fluids such as water or electrolytes. Apply a pain-relieving balm on the head if required. Do not consume too much of alcohol. Consult your doctor if the symptom did not improve.

Can I stop using TRAVACOM once my symptoms subside?

No. Do not stop using TRAVACOM unless your doctor tells you to do so, because pre-mature discontinuation of TRAVACOM can increase the risk of other eye problems (including reduced vision or complete blindness). Therefore, continue to use TRAVACOM as long as your doctor prescribes you to achieve better control of elevated pressure within the eye.
