What TAMSULIN T is used for?

It is used,

  • in men for the treatment of the symptoms of the lower urinary tract infection associated with an enlarged prostatic gland (benign prostatic hyperplasia). These complaints may include difficulty urinating (poor stream), dribbling, urgency and having to urinate frequently at night as well as during the day
  • for the treatment of the symptoms of overactive bladder syndrome. If you have overactive bladder syndrome, you may find that you are unable to control urination and need to rush to the toilet with no warning and/or go to the toilet frequently

Talk to your doctor before taking this medicine, if you:

  • are allergic to Tamsulosin and Tolterodine or to any of the other ingredients of this medicine
  • have a history of a fall in blood pressure on standing up, which causes dizziness, light-headedness or fainting
  • have severe liver, kidney or heart problems
  • are undergoing or have been scheduled for eye surgery
  • are unable to pass urine from the bladder (urinary retention)
  • suffer from myasthenia gravis (excessive weakness of the muscles)
  • suffer from severe ulcerative colitis (ulceration and inflammation of the colon)
  • suffer from a toxic megacolon (acute dilatation of the colon)
  • have a hiatal hernia (herniation of an abdominal organ)
  • have abnormally low levels of potassium, calcium or magnesium in your blood

  • You should not use this medicine when you are pregnant

Tell your doctor if you are taking, have recently taken or might take any other medicines such as:

  • diclofenac, a pain killer and anti-inflammatory medicine
  • warfarin, a medicine to prevent blood clotting
  • another a-adrenoceptor blocker such as prazosin
  • ketoconazole, erythromycin used to treat infections
  • medicines that affect the passage of food (e.g. metoclopramide, domperidone and cisapride)
  • medicines for the treatment of irregular heartbeat (e.g. amiodarone, sotalol, quinidine, procainamide)
  • other medicines with a similar mode of action to TAMSULIN T (antimuscarinic properties) or medicines with an opposite mode of action to TAMSULIN T (cholinergic properties)

  • Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you
  • The usual dose is one capsule per day taken after breakfast or after your first meal of the day
  • Swallow the capsule whole with a glass of water, while standing or sitting (not while lying down)
  • Do not break or open the capsule

If you take more TAMSULIN T

  • Contact your doctor or go to nearest hospital immediately if you take more TAMSULIN T

If you forget to take TAMSULIN T

  • If you have missed a dose, just continue to take your daily capsule as prescribed
  • Never take a double dose to make up for the forgotten dose

If you stop taking TAMSULIN T

  • Always consult your doctor, if you consider stopping this therapy
