STELOFER XT TABLET contains Ferrous ascorbate and Folic acid which belongs to the group of medicines called Hematinics. It is used to treat and prevent nutritional deficiency anaemia associated with iron and folic acid.
STELOFER XT TABLET can also be used to treat and prevent anaemia occurring during pregnancy and breast feeding. Anemia is when your body can't produce enough of haemoglobin (a substance in red blood cells that enables them to carry oxygen), due to insufficient iron.
STELOFER XT TABLET is not recommended to be taken if you have any kidney or liver diseases, porphyria cutanea tarda, conditions affecting iron level of your body, cobalamin deficiency, any malignant disease, inflammatory bowel disease, galactose intolerance, lapp lactase deficiency or glucose - galactose malabsorption.
It is not recommended to take STELOFER XT TABLET if you are receiving frequent blood transfusions and parenteral iron therapy. STELOFER XT TABLET is safe to take in pregnancy and breastfeeding, however, consult your doctor before taking it. Safety and efficacy of STELOFER XT TABLET in children have not been established.
The most common side effects of taking STELOFER XT TABLET are nausea, vomiting, constipation, diarrhoea and dark stools. It is recommended to consult the doctor if any of the symptoms worsen or persist for longer duration.
Treats and prevents anaemia occurring:
STELOFER XT TABLET helps increase haemoglobin levels where Ferrous ascorbate facilitates oxygen delivery and consumption, promotes cell growth and multiplication and thus boosts red blood cells and haemoglobin synthesis and Folic acid plays an essential role in the production of red blood cells (which transport oxygen throughout the body) and during pregnancy, owing to its function in the development of the brain and spinal cord of the developing baby.
Take STELOFER XT TABLET as advised by your physician. Swallow it with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration of STELOFER XT TABLET treatment depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.
Take STELOFER XT TABLET with or just after meals. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating oily or spicy foods. If symptom persists, contact your doctor.
Get adequate rest. Drink lots of fluids, especially water. Have small sips if you feel sick. Eat when you feel like it – you don't have to eat or avoid any specific foods. Do not take any medicine for vomiting without your doctor's consultation. If vomiting persists, contact your doctor.
Drink lots of liquids like water or fruit juice to maintain hydration. Call your doctor before taking any medicine for diarrhea. If diarrhea persists, contact your doctor.
Consume enough fiber rich foods like fresh fruits, vegetables, cereals and drink ample amount of water. Exercise more regularly. If symptom persists, contact your doctor.
Eat when you are hungry. Eat smaller meals more often than usual. Snack only when you're hungry. Eat a protein-rich or other healthy snack such as dried fruit and nuts. If appetite does not get better, contact your doctor.
STELOFER XT TABLET should be taken by pregnant women only if necessary. Consult your doctor before taking it.
STELOFER XT TABLET should be taken during breastfeeding only if the potential benefits outweigh the potential risks to the baby. Consult your doctor before taking it.
STELOFER XT TABLET should be used with caution in patients who consume alcohol in large amounts. Consult your doctor for advice.
STELOFER XT TABLET should be used with caution in patients with a history of kidney disease. Consult your doctor before taking it.
STELOFER XT TABLET should be used with caution in patients with hepatitis (inflammation of liver). Consult your doctor before taking it.
Do not take STELOFER XT TABLET if you are allergic to ferrous ascorbate, folic acid or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.
STELOFER XT TABLET should be used with caution in patients with a family history of heart diseases. Consult your doctor before taking it.

Avoid consuming foods containing soybean or soy protein with STELOFER XT TABLET as they can reduce iron absorption.
If you or anyone else accidentally take too much of STELOFER XT TABLET, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. Symptoms of overdose are stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, dark sticky stools, blood in vomit, low blood pressure, fast heartbeat, dehydration, drowsiness, paleness, bluish discoloration, tiredness and fits.

Can STELOFER XT TABLET be given to children?
Safety and efficacy of STELOFER XT TABLET in children have not been established. Consult your child’s doctor for advice. The doctor will determine an appropriate dose or select a suitable alternative treatment for your child.
What if I forget to take a dose of STELOFER XT TABLET?
If you forget to take a dose of STELOFER XT TABLET, take it as soon as you remember. However, omit the missed dose if it's almost time for the next one. Do not take STELOFER XT TABLET two times to make up for the missed dose.
Can I stop taking STELOFER XT TABLET on my own?
Continue taking STELOFER XT TABLET until your doctor tells you to stop, unless you experience any unwanted effects, worsening of your condition or any new symptoms. Contact your doctor in such case.
How should STELOFER XT TABLET be taken? Can it be crushed?
No. Do not break, crush or chew STELOFER XT TABLET. Take it as advised by your physician. Swallow it with a glass of water. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration of STELOFER XT TABLET for you based on your age, body weight and disease condition.
Can I take STELOFER XT TABLET if I recently received a coronary stent?
No, it is not recommended to take STELOFER XT TABLET if you got a surgery performed for coronary stenosis (angioplasty and coronary stents). Also, it is recommended to take STELOFER XT TABLET with caution if anyone in the family is diagnosed with a condition/ disease affecting heart. Consult your doctor for advice.
