What SRFIL is used for?

It is used to,

  • treat stomach ulcers
  • treat ulcers in your bowel and inflammation of your stomach lining

Talk to your doctor before use of this medicine, if you:

  • are allergic (hypersensitive) to sucralfate or any of the other ingredients of this medicine
  • are on dialysis for kidney problems
  • Talk to your doctor before taking this medicine if you are pregnant, might become pregnant or think you might be pregnant or are breast-feeding
  • SRFIL is not suitable for children under 14 years old
  • SRFIL may make you feel dizzy or drowsy. If you feel dizzy or drowsy, do not drive or use tools or machines while taking this medicine

Tell your doctor if you are taking, have recently taken or might take any other medicines such as:

  • certain antibiotics such as tetracycline, ciprofloxacin or norfloxacin
  • sulpiride, used for mental health problems (psychotic episodes)
  • digoxin, used for heart problems
  • phenytoin, used for fits (epilepsy)
  • warfarin, used for blood clots
  • theophylline, used for asthma or other breathing problems
  • levothyroxine, used for thyroid problems
  • quinidine, used for heart problems
  • ketoconazole, used for fungal infections
  • Using the 50ml syringe provided, draw up 10mls of SRFIL and then 20-40mls of warm water and mix. Expel any excess air from the syringe
  • Attach the catheter provided to the syringe tip and lubricate the end of the catheter with the Optilube provided
  • Lie on your left side and bend both knees towards your chest (this position will help the flow of liquid into the rectum and aid retention)
  • Position a towel underneath yourself to catch any fluid leakage after administration
  • Gently insert the catheter into the rectum, ensuring a depth of a few of inches (approximately 10cm)
  • Using steady pressure, press down the barrel of the syringe slowly until the entire content of the syringe is administered. Withdraw the catheter slowly
  • Try to retain the enema in the rectum for as long as possible (at least 15minutes). Remain lying and gently roll over several times to ensure maximum coverage of the affected area of bowel
  • Once finished, wash equipment in warm water and store safely

If you use more SRFIL

  • If you use more SRFIL than you should, talk to a doctor or go to hospital straight away

  • Once opened the medicine should be used within 1 month
