What PARAFAST is used for?

It is used to treat,

  • frequently relapsing eczema
  • psoriasis (thickened patches of inflamed, red skin, often covered by silvery scales), excluding widespread plaque psoriasis
  • lichen planus (a skin disease that causes itchy, reddish-purple, flat-topped bumps on the wrists, forearms or lower legs)
  • discoid lupus erythematosus (a disease of the skin most often affecting the face, ears and scalp causing scarring and increased sensitivity of the affected skin to sunlight)
  • dermatitis and other skin conditions that have not responded to milder steroid creams or ointments

Talk to your doctor before using PARAFAST, if you:

  • are allergic to calcitriol and clobetasol propionate or to any of the other ingredients of this medicine
  • are treated by systemic (oral) route for a calcium deficiency
  • have a kidney or liver disease
  • have high blood calcium levels or if you suffer from abnormal calcium metabolism
  • are applying the ointment on broken or damaged skin or within the skin folds
  • have psoriasis
  • are using for a chronic leg ulcer
  • have cataracts or glaucoma
  • If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor for advice before taking this medicine
  • PARAFAST should not be used if you are breast-feeding
  • There is no experience with the use of PARAFAST in children. Therefore, use in children should be avoided

   • It does not affect the ability to drive and use machines

Tell your doctor if you are taking:

  • any other topical treatment you may have used, or you are using for your psoriasis lesions, before starting this treatment
  • ritonavir and itraconazole
  • Always use this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you
  • PARAFAST is an ointment for use on the skin only (cutaneous)
  • First wash and dry the affected areas of your skin
  • Apply a thin layer of PARAFAST over the affected areas to be treated twice a day, morning and evening before retiring, or as advised by your doctor
  • Wash your hands after each application to avoid any contact with other non lesional areas
  • Do not swallow this product. If you accidentally do so, seek immediate medical advice
  • Regularly follow your treatment, according strictly to your doctor’s instructions
  • If you feel that the effect of this medicine is too strong or too weak, talk to your doctor
  • After using the ointment, wash your hands to prevent unintentional spread to non-affected zones

If you forget to use PARAFAST

  • Apply as soon as you remember

If you stop using PARAFAST

  • Do not stop using this medicine before consulting your doctor
Very Rare

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.


  • severe irritation or contact allergy (redness, itching)

Clobetasol Propionate

  • generalized rash, or your skin becomes swollen during treatment


  • pruritus (itching skin)
  • skin discomfort
  • erythema (skin redness)

Clobetasol Propionate

  • a feeling of burning, pain, irritation or itching where the ointment is applied


  • dry skin
  • psoriasis aggravation

Clobetasol Propionate

  • skin thinning, stretch marks may develop
  • blood vessels under the surface of your skin may become more noticeable
