INTRODUCTION

S AMLOVAG 5 TABLET contains Amlodipine which belongs to the group of medicines called Antihypertensive agents. It is used to treat hypertension and certain type of angina (chest pain) called as Prinzmetal or variant angina.

Hypertension (also known as high blood pressure) is a medical condition in which the force of the blood exerted against the walls of the arteries remains very high, and as a result it may lead to severe damage to the blood vessels supplying vital organs, such as heart, kidney or brain. If left untreated, it may cause serious complications such as heart attack, heart failure, stroke or even blindness.

Angina is a type of chest pain caused due to decreased blood flow and oxygen supply to the heart muscles. It is characterized by a sharp chest pain originating from the heart and radiating until left shoulder along with severe chest tightness or heaviness, and difficulty in breathing.

Take S AMLOVAG 5 TABLET as advised by your physician. Avoid drinking grapefruit juice while taking S AMLOVAG 5 TABLET, as it could lead to unpredictable increase in the blood pressure lowering effects of S AMLOVAG 5 TABLET.

Before taking S AMLOVAG 5 TABLET, inform your doctor if you have any liver problems. You must also inform your doctor if you have severe uncontrollable increase in blood pressure or recently had heart attack.

S AMLOVAG 5 TABLET is a vasodilator. It works by blocking the entry of certain ions (calcium ions) within the blood vessels that causes narrowing. As a result, it relaxes the blood vessels and allows blood to flow more smoothly across the blood vessels with less pressure.

In patients with angina, S AMLOVAG 5 TABLET acts by improving the blood flow and oxygen supply to the heart muscles. This reduces the strain on the heart and improves heart functions.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

Take S AMLOVAG 5 TABLET as advised by your physician. Swallow the medicines with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine.

• other medicines used to treat high blood pressure or angina (Ex. diltiazem, verapamil)
• ketoconazole, itraconazole (used to treat fungal infections)
• ritonavir, indinavir, nelfinavir (used in treatment of HIV infections)
• rifampicin, erythromycin, clarithromycin (used to treat bacterial infections)
• dantrolene (a medicine used to treat muscle spasms)
• medicines used to control elevated cholesterol levels (Ex. simvastatin)
• medicines used to prevent graft rejection and to suppress immune functions (such as tacrolimus, sirolimus, temsirolimus, everlimus, cyclosporine)
• St. John’s wort (an herbal medicine used to treat depression)

B. Drug - Food interaction:

Avoid drinking grapefruit juice while taking S AMLOVAG 5 TABLET, as it could lead to unpredictable increase in the blood pressure lowering effects of S AMLOVAG 5 TABLET.

Overdosage:

If you or anyone else accidentally took more S AMLOVAG 5 TABLET, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. Symptoms of overdosage might include dizziness, fainting, light-headedness, weakness, shock, cool or clampy skin and shortness of breath.
