What ROVAMYCIN is used for?

ROVAMYCIN is indicated in,

  • the treatment of otorhinolaryngological, bronchopulmonary, stomathological, genital (especially of prostate origin), bone and skin infections
  • prophylaxis of meningitis by meningococcus
  • cases when rifampicin is contraindicated
  • the treatment of toxoplasmosis

Talk to your doctor before taking this medicine, if you:

  • are allergic to spiramycin or to any of the other ingredients of this medicine
  • have severe liver problem
  • are suffering from a rare hereditary disease that affects the number of red blood cells and causes tiredness, pallor or breathing difficulties
  • are suffering from unbalanced blood electrolyte levels
  • have a heart disease
  • Talk to your doctor if you are pregnant or trying to get pregnant
  • Since ROVAMYCIN passes into breast milk, mothers are advised to discontinue breast-feeding while they are being treated with this medicine
  • This medicine is intended for use in adults and children over the age of 6

Tell your doctor if you are taking medicines such as:

  • levodopa (a medicine for the treatment of parkinson's disease)
  • warfarin used to prevent blood clots
  • medicines for the treatment of heart problems
  • medicines used to treat mental disorders
  • medicines to treat infections
  • Always take ROVAMYCIN as your doctor has told you
  • Do not exceed the recommended dose
  • Swallow the medicine with a glass of water

If you take more ROVAMYCIN

  • If you take more ROVAMYCIN, contact your doctor immediately
  • The symptoms of overdose - nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, heart rate disturbances may occur

If you forget to take ROVAMYCIN

  • If you forget a dose, take the next dose when it is time to take it usually
  • Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose

If you stop taking ROVAMYCIN

  • Do not stop treatment with this medicine without consulting the doctor

Like all other medicines, ROVAMYCIN may cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

  • redness and pustular swelling all over the body, accompanied by fever
  • a severe skin rash that can include blisters or peeling of the skin around the lips, eyes, mouth, nose and genitals
  • allergic reaction such as rash, urticarial, itching
  • sudden swelling of the face and neck
  • sudden malaise, with a sharp drop in blood pressure (anaphylactic shock)
  • abdominal pain
  • diarrhea
  • nausea and vomiting
  • sometimes short tingling or stinging sensation
  • temporary loss of taste
  • hemolytic anemia, low neutrophil count, low white blood cell count

  • intestinal problem called pseudomembranous colitis, manifested by diarrhea and abdominal pain
