What is RIOPAH 1MG?

  • RIOPAH 1MG contains Riociguat which belong to a class called Soluble guanylate cyclase stimulators. Soluble guanylate cyclase is an enzyme that, when stimulated, catalyzes the synthesis of cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) in the cardiopulmonary system.

What RIOPAH 1MG is used for?

It is used in two types of pulmonary hypertension such as:

  • chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH)
  • certain types of pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH)

Talk to your Doctor, if you:

  • are allergic to any of the other ingredients of this medicine
  • have severe liver problems
  • have low blood pressure
  • have increased pressure in your pulmonary circulation associated with scarring of the lungs, of unknown cause (idiopathic pulmonary pneumonia)
  • have recently experienced serious bleeding from the lung
  • have undergone treatment to stop coughing up blood (bronchial arterial embolisation)
  • are older than 65 years
  • are on dialysis
  • are a smoker
  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor for advice before taking this medicine
  • This medicine not recommended to children and adolescents under 18 years of age
  • Do not drive or operate any machines while taking this medicine as it may cause dizziness

Tell your doctor if you are taking,

  • drugs used for the high blood pressure in the arteries of the lungs (PAH) or erectile dysfunction
  • amyl nitrite (chest pain or heart disease)
  • anticoagulants (helps to treat blood-thinning)
  • ketoconazole, posaconazole, itraconazole (used to treat fungal infections)
  • drugs used to treat HIV infection
  • phenytoin, carbamazepine, phenobarbitone (used to treat epilepsy)
  • ciclosporin (used to prevent rejection of transplanted organs)
  • niflumic acid (used to treat joint and muscular pain)
  • erlotinib, gefitinib (used to treat cancer)
  • aluminium hydroxide or magnesium hydroxide (used to treat stomach disease or heartburn)
  • Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you

If you take more RIOPAH 1MG

  • If you have taken more than your prescribed dose, contact your doctor or nearest hospital
  • Symptoms of overdose: dizziness (low blood pressure)

If you forget to take RIOPAH 1MG

  • Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose. If you miss a dose, continue with the next dose as planned

If you stop taking RIOPAH 1MG

  • Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor tells you to do so

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them

Very Rare
  • coughing up blood (haemoptysis)
  • bleeding from the lungs (pulmonary haemorrhage)
  • headache, dizziness
  • nausea and vomiting, indigestion (dyspepsia)
  • swelling of limbs (edema peripheral)
  • diarrhoea
  • inflammation of the stomach (gastritis), inflammation in the digestive system (gastroenteritis)
  • pale skin, weakness or breathlessness (reduction of red blood cells)
  • awareness of an irregular, hard, or rapid heartbeat (palpitation)
  • nosebleed (epistaxis)
  • difficulty breathing through your nose (nasal congestion)
  • pain in the stomach, intestine or abdomen (gastrointestinal and abdominal pain)
  • heartburn (gastro-esophageal reflux disease)
  • difficulty in swallowing (dysphagia)
  • constipation
  • bloating (abdominal distension)
