INTRODUCTION

RIMOQUIN 500MG contains Chloroquine which belongs to a group of medicines called antimalarials and amebicides. It treats uncomplicated malaria caused by susceptible strains of P. falciparum, P.malariae, P. ovale and P.vivax, prophylaxis of malaria and extraintestinal amebiasis. Chloroquine phosphate is an antimalarial and amebicidal medicine. It does not prevent relapses in patients with vivax or ovale malaria because it is not effective against exoerythrocytic forms of the parasites.

Before taking RIMOQUIN 500MG inform your doctor if you have liver, kidney or heart problems, are pregnant or breastfeeding. Your doctor will prescribe the right dose depends on your child’s age and body weight. The common side effects are nausea, diarrhea, headache, rash, itching and hair loss.

USES OF RIMOQUIN 500MG

  • Treats Malaria and Extraintestinal amebiasis

HOW RIMOQUIN 500MG WORKS

Chloroquine acts by killing the organisms which causes malaria and amebiasis.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

Always take RIMOQUIN 500MG as instructed by your doctor. Swallow the medicine whole and do not crush or chew. Do not exceed the recommended dose.

HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS

Diarrhoea:

Drink plenty of fluids and ORS can be used to prevent dehydration.

Stomach pain:

Place a warm water bottle on your abdomen. Soak in a warm bath and drink plenty of clear fluids and water.

Headache:

Rest and drink plenty of fluids. Ask your doctor to recommend a painkiller.

Nausea:

Take normal regular meals and do not eat spicy foods.

RIMOQUIN 500MG should be used with caution in pregnant women only if clearly needed. Consult your doctor for advice.

BREASTFEEDING

RIMOQUIN 500MG should be used with caution during breastfeeding. Consult your doctor for advice.

ALCOHOL

Consumption of alcohol is not recommended during treatment with RIMOQUIN 500MG.

KIDNEY

RIMOQUIN 500MG should be used with caution in patients with active kidney diseases. Consult your doctor for advice.

LIVER

RIMOQUIN 500MG should be used with caution in patients with active liver diseases. Consult your doctor for advice.

ALLERGY

Do not take if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to Chloroquine.

HEART DISEASE

RIMOQUIN 500MG should be used with caution in patients suffering from active heart diseases. Consult your doctor for advice.

OTHERS

Tell your physician, if you have or had,

  • acute malaria
  • hypoglycemia
  • history of epilepsy
  • auditory damages
  • psoriasis

INTERACTIONS

Tell your doctor if you are taking,

  • antacids and kaolin
  • cimetidine (treats stomach ulcers)
  • insulin (treats diabetes)
  • arrhythmogenic medicines
  • ampicillin
  • cyclosporine
  • mefloquine
  • praziquantel
  • tamoxifen
