RIFAFRND 550 TABLET contains Rifaximin which belongs to the group of medicines called Antibiotics. It is used in adults with liver diseases to reduce the recurrence of episodes of overt hepatic encephalopathy. Overt hepatic encephalopathy is a neurological disorder caused due to accumulation of toxins in the blood because of liver damage (such as liver cirrhosis). It is characterized by recurrent episodes of hepatic encephalopathy (such as confusion, muscle problems, shaking and difficulty in speech) within the last 6 months.
RIFAFRND 550 TABLET is also used in adults to treat irritable bowel syndrome with diarrhoea. Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a common gastrointestinal disease that affects the large intestine. It is characterized by altered bowel habits with persistent stomach pain or discomfort, diarrhea and bloating.
Rifaximin is a broad-spectrum antibiotic used for gastrointestinal and liver diseases. It treats hepatic encephalopathy by preventing the growth of toxin-producing bacteria in the digestive tract. This reduces toxin accumulation in the blood and prevents the onset or recurrence of disorders caused due to toxin accumulation (such as hepatic encephalopathy). RIFAFRND 550 TABLET may cause pink or reddish discoloration of urine. This is usually harmless and disappears after discontinuation of the therapy. However, consult your doctor if it bothers you.
Other most common side effects of taking RIFAFRND 550 TABLET are dizziness, nausea, vomiting, headache, shortness of breath, stomach pain, accumulation of fluid in the abdominal cavity (ascites), diarrhoea, and depressed mood. Contact your doctor if any of these side effect worsens. Also inform your doctor if you experience severe diarrhea even after stopping treatment with RIFAFRND 550 TABLET before several months.

Eat more fibre rich foods such as fresh fruits, vegetables, and cereals. Drink plenty of water. Exercise more regularly. Consult your doctor if this side effect bothers you.
Hydrate yourself by drinking plenty of fluids, such as water or fruit juices. Consuming ORS can also be beneficial. Do not self-treat diarrhea on your own. Consult your doctor if your diarrhea becomes uncontrollable or if you see blood in your stools.
Take RIFAFRND 550 TABLET along with, or just after meals. Avoid eating oil rich or spicy foods. Stick on to simple healthy foods. Consult your doctor if your nausea worsens.
Rest and relax. Keep yourself hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids such as water or electrolytes. Applying a pain-relieving balm on your forehead can be beneficial. Do not consume excessive alcohol, as it could aggravate your headache. Consult your doctor if your headache worsens.
It is not known whether the use of RIFAFRND 550 TABLET can affect the growth of an unborn baby. Therefore, RIFAFRND 550 TABLET should not be used in pregnant women unless considered necessary by the physician.
It is not known whether RIFAFRND 550 TABLET can pass through breast milk or not. Therefore, RIFAFRND 550 TABLET should not be used in breastfeeding women unless considered necessary by the physician.
Do not drive or operate any machines if you feel dizzy after taking RIFAFRND 550 TABLET.
