INTRODUCTION

RHINOCOBAL 250MCG contains Methylcobalamin which belongs to a group of medicines called Anti-anemic agent. It is used for the prevention and treatment of vitamin B12 deficiency in adults. Deficiency of vitamin B12 may lead to decreased red blood cell formation (anemia), nerve pain and pain in extremities. It can also be used as a maintenance therapy in adults with pernicious anemia who are in remission following intramuscular vitamin B12 therapy and who have no nervous system involvement. Prior to the treatment, your doctor might recommend you take blood test pertaining to hematocrit, reticulocyte count, vitamin B12, folate and iron levels. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration of therapy for you depending upon your condition.

The recommended initial dose is 1 spray in 1 nostril once weekly. Administer this medicine at least 1 before or after ingestion of hot foods or liquids. This medicine is generally safe and does not cause any side effects. However, a mild, nasal or GI discomfort can happen. This medicine should be used with caution in patients with symptoms of nasal congestion, allergic rhinitis or upper respiratory infection. Consult your doctor before taking.

USES OF RHINOCOBAL 250MCG

  • Prevents and treats vitamin B12 deficiency

HOW RHINOCOBAL 250MCG WORKS

Following intranasal administration, methylcobalamin is converted to Coenzyme B12 in the liver, which is essential for the transmethylation of homocysteine to methionine. Synthesis of methionine performs various metabolic functions which is required for cell replication and haematopoiesis (production of RBC). It also promotes the synthesis of nucleic acid and proteins and maintains myelin throughout the nervous system, which helps in proper function of central nervous system.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

Always use this medicine as directed by your physician. The recommended initial dose is 1 spray (500 mcg) administered in 1 nostril once weekly. Blow your nostrils gently before using this medicine. Tilt your head backwards and close 1 nostril with your fingertips. Insert the nozzle of the spray into another nostril. Breathe in gently and close your mouth. Press the plunger firmly with your thumb. Remove the nozzle from your nostril.

Administer RHINOCOBAL 250MCG, at least 1 hour before or after ingestion of hot foods or liquids since hot foods may cause nasal secretions and a resulting loss of medication. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration of the therapy for you depending upon your condition.
