What REDEMIDE is used for?

It is used to treat,

  • multiple myeloma (MM) in combination with the medicine dexamethasone
  • moderate to severe new lesions of leprosy
  • as maintenance treatment to prevent and keep the skin lesions of leprosy from coming back (recurring)

Talk to your doctor before taking this medicine, if you:

  • are allergic to thalidomide or any of the other ingredients of this medicine
  • have a history of seizures
  • drink alcohol
  • plan to have surgery
  • If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor for advice before taking this medicine
  • REDEMIDE is not recommended in children under 12 years of age
  • Sometimes REDEMIDE may make you feel dizzy, you should not drive or operate machinery until you know how the drug affects you
  • Tell your doctor if you are taking any prescription, nonprescription or herbal medicines especially if you are taking pembrolizumab medicine used in the treatment of cancer
  • Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you
  • It should be swallowed whole with a drink of water
  • It can be taken with or without food
  • Do not open or crush the medicine
  • It is taken 1 time each day, at least 1 hour after your evening meal. Bedtime is the preferred time to take REDEMIDE

If you take more REDEMIDE

  • If you accidentally take too many, you should tell your doctor at once or contact the nearest casualty department

If you forget to take REDEMIDE

  • If you forget to take a dose, skip the missed dose. Take the next dose as usual. Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose

If you stop taking REDEMIDE

  • Do not stop taking your medicine unless your doctor has told you to
Very Rare

Like all medicine, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

  • drowsiness and sleepiness
  • nerve damage - your hands, legs, or feet, numbness, tingling, pain, burning sensation
  • dizziness
  • decrease in your blood pressure, and you may feel dizzy when you go to lying down or sitting position to standing up
  • decreased white blood cell count - white blood cell counts, including neutrophils
  • decreased platelet count - small red or purple spots on your body, bright red or tar like stools, unusual bleeding or bruising, vomiting or coughing up blood, nosebleeds
  • worsening of viral infection
  • slow heartbeat (bradycardia) - slow heartbeat, fainting, dizziness or shortness of breath
  • serious skin reactions
  • seizures
  • tumor Lysis Syndrome (TLS) - kidney failure and the need for dialysis, abnormal heart rhythm, and sometimes death
  • birth control risks – in females. These risks include decreased white blood cell counts, low platelet counts, and blood clots
  • intrauterine device (IUD) or implantable birth control - may increase bleeding during insertion, removal or during use of the device
  • allergic reaction – red itchy rash, fever, fast heartbeat, feel dizzy or faint
  • tiredness
  • decreased calcium levels
  • swelling of the hands and feet
  • constipation
  • numbness or tingling
  • shortness of breath
  • muscle weakness
  • low blood counts
  • skin rash or peeling
  • confusion, decreased appetite
  • nausea, anxiety
  • decreased energy or strength
  • tremor, fever, weight loss
  • blood clots
  • muscle twitching and cramping
  • weight gain, dry skin, sleepiness, headache

  • Store at room temperature (15-25°C)
  • Do not use after the expiry date
