INTRODUCTION

R LOC D TABLET is a combination of Domperidone and Ranitidine which belongs to the group of medicines called Prokinetic Drugs and Histamine (H2) receptor blockers respectively. It is used to treat and prevent peptic ulcer (painful sores on gut linings), gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD; acid reflux), reflux esophagitis (inflammation of food pipe due to acid reflux) and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome (tumours in pancreas causing the stomach to secrete more acid).

It can also be used to treat and prevent nausea and vomiting and provides relief from the unpleasant symptoms of the GI tract such as indigestion, burping, bloating, acidity or heartburn. It can also prevent acid reflux among patients undergoing anaesthesia or labour pain.

Before taking R LOC D TABLET inform your doctor if you have any diabetes or any problems in your liver, kidney or heart. You must also inform your doctor if you have any blockage, tears or tumours in the gut as a precaution.

R LOC D TABLET is not recommended for use in patients with signs of GI bleeding (such as passing bloody stools). Consult your doctor before taking R LOC D TABLET if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. The most common side effects of taking R LOC D TABLET are dry mouth, constipation, stomach pain and low sex drive. Consult your doctor if any of these side effect bothers you.

USES OF R LOC D TABLET

It is used to treat and prevent:

  • Peptic ulcer
  • Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD; acid reflux)
  • Reflux esophagitis (inflammation of food pipe due to acid reflux)
  • Zollinger-Ellison syndrome (tumours in pancreas causing the stomach to secrete more acid)
  • Nausea and Vomiting
  • Acidity, heartburn, indigestion, burping or bloating
  • Acid reflux in patients under anaesthesia or labour pain (in pregnant women)

HOW R LOC D TABLET WORKS

R LOC D TABLET contains two medicines namely domperidone and ranitidine. Domperidone stimulates the gut and speeds up the movements of food from the stomach into the intestines. These actions reduce the chances for acid reflux and prevents the irritation of food pipe and other unpleasant symptoms of GI tract (such as acidity, bloating, burping and indigestion).

It also blocks the transmission of nerve signals between the vomiting centres of the spinal cord and the brain which reduces the onset of nausea and vomiting.

Ranitidine blocks the effects of certain chemicals in the gut (such as histamines) that increases stomach acid production. As a result, it heals the existing ulcers and prevents them from becoming worse.
