What QUINTOR INFUSION is used for?

QUINTOR INFUSION is used in adults to treat the following bacterial infections:

  • respiratory tract infections
  • long lasting or recurring ear or sinus infections
  • urinary tract infections
  • genital organ infections in women
  • gastro-intestinal tract infections and intra-abdominal infections
  • skin and soft tissue infections
  • bone and joint infections
  • anthrax inhalation exposure
  • low white blood cell counts (neutropenia) who have a fever that is suspected to be due to a bacterial infection

QUINTOR INFUSION is used in children to treat the following bacterial infections:

  • lung and bronchial infections
  • suffering from cystic fibrosis
  • complicated urinary tract infections, including infections that have reached the kidneys (pyelonephritis)
  • anthrax inhalation exposure

Talk to your Doctor, if you:

  • are allergic or hypersensitive to Ciprofloxacin or any of the other ingredients of this medicine
  • have ever had kidney problems
  • suffer from epilepsy or other neurological conditions such as cerebral ischemia or stroke
  • have a history of tendon problems
  • are diabetic
  • have myasthenia gravis (a type of muscle weakness)
  • have heart failure
  • have family history of prolonged QT interval
  • have salt imbalance in the blood
  • have a very slow heart rhythm (called bradycardia)
  • have a history of heart attack (myocardial infarction)
  • have a deficiency in glucose-6- phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD)
  • have pain and swelling in the joints and tendinitis
  • It is preferable to avoid this medicine during pregnancy
  • Do not take this medicine during breast feeding because it is excreted in breast milk and can be harmful for your child
  • If you are pregnant or breast feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor for advice before taking this medicine
  • Ask your doctor for advice before giving this medicine to your children
  • QUINTOR INFUSION may make you feel less alert. Some neurological adverse events can occur. Therefore, make sure you know how you react to this medicine before driving a vehicle or operating machinery. Talk to your doctor for advice

Tell your doctor if you are taking,

  • vitamin K antagonists (e.g. warfarin, acenocoumarol, phenprocoumon or fluindione) or other oral anti-coagulants (used to thin the blood)
  • probenecid (used for gout)
  • methotrexate (used for certain types of cancer, psoriasis, rheumatoid arthritis)
  • theophylline (for breathing problems)
  • tizanidine (used for muscle spasticity in multiple sclerosis)
  • clozapine, olanzapine (used as an antipsychotic)
  • ropinirole (for Parkinson’s disease)
  • phenytoin (for epilepsy)
  • cyclosporin (for skin conditions, rheumatoid arthritis and in organ transplantation)
  • anti-arrhythmics (e.g. quinidine, hydroquinidine, disopyramide, amiodarone, sotalol, dofetilide, ibutilide)
  • pentoxifylline (used for circulatory disorders)
  • caffeine
  • duloxetine (used for depression, diabetic nerve damage or incontinence)
  • lidocaine (used for heart conditions or anaesthetic use)
  • sildenafil (used for erectile dysfunction)
  • agomelatine (used for anxiety disorders)
  • zolpidem (used to treat sleep problems)
  • QUINTOR INFUSION must only be given by a doctor or nurse

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

Very Rare
  • allergic reaction: anaphylactic reaction/shock, angioedema
  • muscle pain and/or weakness, inflammation of the joints and joint pain, increased muscle tone and cramping, inflammation of the tendons (achilles tendon)
  • epilepsy or other neurological conditions
  • psychiatric reactions:  depression or psychosis
  • unusual feelings of pain, burning tingling, numbness of muscle weakness in the extremities (neuropathy)
  • severe or persistent diarrhoea
  • loss of appetite, jaundice (yellowing of the skin), dark urine, itching or tenderness of the stomach
  • fever, sore throat/pharynx/mouth or urinary problems
  • impairment of your eyesight
  • nausea, diarrhoea, vomiting
  • joint pain
  • local reaction at the injection site, rash
  • temporary increased amounts of substances in the blood (transaminases)
  • fungal superinfections
  • hyperactivity, agitation, confusion, disorientation, hallucinations
  • headache, dizziness, sleeping problems, taste disorders, pins and needles, unusual sensitivity to stimuli of the senses, seizures giddiness
  • eyesight problems including double vision
  • loss of hearing
  • rapid heartbeat (tachycardia)
  • expansion of the blood vessels (vasodilation), low blood pressure
  • abdominal pain, digestive problems such as stomach upset (indigestion/heartburn), wind
  • liver disorders, increased amounts of one substance in the blood, jaundice (cholestatic icterus)
  • itching, hives
  • poor kidney function, kidney failure
  • pains in your muscles and bones, feeling unwell (asthenia), fever, fluid retention
  • increase in blood alkaline phosphatase
  • inflammation of the bowel (colitis)
  • changes to the blood count (leukopenia, leukocytosis, neutropenia, anemia)
  • pancytopenia
  • bone marrow depression
  • anxiety reaction, strange dreams, depression (potentially leading to thoughts of suicide, suicide attempts or completed suicide), mental disturbances (psychotic reactions)
  • decreased skin sensitivity, tremor, migraine, disorder of sense of smell (olfactory disorders)
  • tinnitus, impaired hearing fainting, inflammation of the blood vessel (vasculitis)
  • shortness of breath including asthmatic symptoms
  • pancreatitis
  • blood or crystals in the urine
  • excessive sweating
  • increased levels of the enzyme amylase
  • hemolytic anemia
  • visual color distortions
  • skin eruptions or rashes (e.g. Stevens-Johnson syndrome or toxic epidermal necrolysis)
  • worsening of the symptoms of myasthenia gravis
