What PRONATE TR is used for?

It is in an modified-release form, used as:

  • Maintenance treatment for patients with high blood pressure
  • Preventive treatment of angina pectoris (a condition associated with sharp chest pain and difficulty breathing, often associated with exercise)

Talk to your doctor before taking PRONATE TR, if you:

  • are allergic to Propranolol Hydrochloride or to any of the other ingredients of this medicine
  • have history of wheezing or asthma
  • have allergic rhinitis
  • have pulmonary hypertension (high blood pressure in the arteries of the lungs, which lead to heart failure)
  • have heart problems such as ischaemic heart disease, uncontrolled heart failure, first degree heart block, Prinzmetal's angina
  • have peripheral arterial circulatory disturbances
  • have sensitivity towards allergens
  • are prone to chronic bronchitis and emphysema not related to allergies
  • suffer from untreated pheochromocytoma (high blood pressure due to a tumor near the kidney)
  • have diabetes (may block the symptoms of hypoglycaemia)
  • have a condition caused by an overactive thyroid gland (thyrotoxicosis) it may hide the symptoms of thyrotoxicosis
  • are on a strict fasting diet
  • have severe liver or kidney problems
  • This medicine should not be used in pregnancy unless absolutely necessary
  • Hypoglycaemia or bradycardia may occur in the neonate
  • This medicine will pass into breast milk although to a variable extent
  • Breast-feeding is not recommended during this treatment
  • PRONATE TR is not for use in children
  • PRONATE TR may make you feel dizzy, extremely tired
  • Do not drive or operate machinery if you are affected in this way

Tell your doctor if you are taking medicines such as:

  • Diuretics (used to increase urine output, such as hydrochlorothiazide)
  • Drugs used to control heart rhythm, e.g., disopyramide, amiodarone, propafenone, quinidine
  • Warfarin (used to prevent blood clots)
  • Insulin used to treat diabetes
  • Drugs used to reduce high blood pressure, e.g., guanethidine, verapamil, nifedipine
  • Rizatriptan (used to treat migraine headaches)
  • Digitalis (used to control heart rate and rhythm)
  • Epinephrine (used to treat severe allergic reactions)
  • Cimetidine (used to treat stomach ulcers and pain)
  • Ergotamines (used to treat migraine headaches)
  • Chlorpromazine (one of a class of drugs used to treat psychoses)
  • Lidocaine (used as a local anesthetic)
  • Pain relief or anti-inflammatory drugs available with or without prescriptions such as ibuprofen
  • Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you
  • Swallow PRONATE TR with a drink of water before meals
  • Do not chew or break
  • Take this medicine once daily, either in the morning or the evening

If you take more PRONATE TR

  • If you have accidentally taken more than the prescribed dose, contact your doctor or go to the nearest hospital 
  • Overdose causes an excessively slow heart rate, too low blood pressure, heart failure and breathing difficulty with symptoms such as fatigue, hallucinations, fine tremor, confusion, nausea, vomiting, body spasms, fainting or coma, low blood sugar

If you forget to take PRONATE TR

  • If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember
  • Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose

If you stop taking PRONATE TR

  • If you stop taking PRONATE TR suddenly you may experience unpleasant side effects including sweating, shaking, worsening of angina, irregular heartbeat
  • Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor tells you
Very Rare

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.


  • abdominal pain,
  • nausea, vomiting, diarrhea
  • loss of appetite
  • ringing in the ears
  • low level of sugar in the blood (hypoglycemia)
