What PIZONE 15MG is used for?

It is used to treat:

  • type 2 (non-insulin dependent) diabetes mellitus in adults, when metformin is not suitable or has failed to work adequately

Talk to your doctor before taking PIZONE 15MG, if you:

  • are allergic to any of the ingredients of PIZONE 15MG
  • have heart problems
  • have liver or eye disease
  • have had diabetic ketoacidosis
  • have bladder cancer
  • have fluid retention
  • have cysts in your ovaries (polycystic ovary syndrome)
  • have weak bones
  • Consult your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant or are breast-feeding before taking this medicine
  • Use in children and adolescents under 18 years is not recommended
  • PIZONE 15MG will not affect your ability to drive or use machines but take care if you experience abnormal vision

Tell your doctor if you are taking,

  • gemfibrozil (used to lower cholesterol)
  • rifampicin (used to treat tuberculosis and other infections)
  • other medicines used to treat diabetes (such as insulin, chlorpropamide, glibenclamide, gliclazide, tolbutamide)
  • Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you
  • The usual starting dose is one tablet of 15 mg or of 30 mg of PIZONE 15MG to be taken once daily
  • If you are following a special diet for diabetes, you should continue with this while you are taking PIZONE 15MG
  • Your weight should be checked at regular intervals; if your weight increases, inform your doctor

If you take more PIZONE 15MG

  • If you accidentally take too many tablets, talk to a doctor immediately
  • Your blood sugar could fall below the normal level 

If you forget to take PIZONE 15MG

  • If you miss a dose, just carry on with the next dose as normal
  • Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten tablet

If you stop taking PIZONE 15MG

  • Talk to your doctor before stopping this treatment

  • heart failure
  • bladder cancer
  • localized swelling
  • broken bones
  • blurred vision
  • respiratory infection
  • abnormal vision
  • weight gain
  • numbness
  • decreased blood sugar (hypoglycaemia)
  • headache, dizziness
  • joint or back pain
  • impotence
  • shortness of breath
  • small reduction in red blood cell count
  • flatulence
  • inflammation of the sinuses (sinusitis)
  • difficulty sleeping (insomnia) not known (frequency cannot be estimated from the available data)
  • increase in liver enzymes
  • sugar in urine, proteins in urine
  • spinning sensation (vertigo)
  • sweating
  • tiredness
  • increased appetite
