USES OF PENTASA 1GM SUPPOSITORY

  • Treats ulcerative colitis

HOW PENTASA 1GM SUPPOSITORY WORKS

It inhibits the production of prostaglandins (lipid compounds which produces tissue damage and inflammation) by blocking the activity of cyclooxygenase and lipoxygenase. Decreased production of prostaglandins reduces the inflammation in the colon and rectum, which in turn reduces the symptoms associated with ulcerative colitis.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

Take this medicine as directed by your physician. It is intended for rectal use only. Do not swallow the medicine. Empty your bowels and wash your hands thoroughly. Remove the cap from the applicator and hold the bottle by its upper end. By bending your right leg, lie down on your left side with your left leg outstretched.

Insert the applicator into the rectum, holding the bottle pointed towards your navel. Hold and squeeze the bottle tightly and gently. When the bottle is empty, remove the applicator from the rectum and maintain this bent position for at least 30 minutes to allow the enema to spread throughout the lower part of large intestine.
