INTRODUCTION
NEOVEC 4MG contains Vecuronium which belongs to the group of medicines called Skeletal muscle relaxants. It relaxes your muscles and keeps your body still during a surgery. It can also be used during endotracheal intubation (a tube is placed into the windpipe to open airways) and during an operation as part of general anesthesia. NEOVEC 4MG can be used both in adults and in children (including newborns).
Before receiving NEOVEC 4MG inform your doctor if you have any lung, liver, kidney, or heart problems. You must also inform your doctor if you have any nerve or muscle disorders, electrolyte imbalance or if you are severely dehydrated.
NEOVEC 4MG should be used in pregnant or breastfeeding women only if it is considered necessary by the physician. However, it may be used during a caesarean section in pregnant women under close supervision.
NEOVEC 4MG may cause difficulty in breathing which is due to relaxation of muscle involved in breathing. In such cases, your doctor might provide you with additional ventilation support until the effect of NEOVEC 4MG wears off.
Other most common side effects of receiving NEOVEC 4MG are pain or irritation at the site of injection, muscle weakness, dizziness, and low blood pressure. Inform your doctor if any of these symptoms worsen.
USES OF NEOVEC 4MG
It is used in adults and in children (aged 0-18 years including newborns) to:
- relax muscles prior to a surgical procedure
- easily fix flexible plastic tube into the trachea during endotracheal intubation
HOW NEOVEC 4MG WORKS
NEOVEC 4MG is a muscle relaxant. It works by blocking the transmission of nerve signals from the nerve fibers to the muscles. As a result, it causes muscle relaxation and help you stay still during surgeries. NEOVEC 4MG can also relax the muscles involved in breathing which facilitates easy fix of flexible plastic tube into the trachea during endotracheal intubation.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE
NEOVEC 4MG will be given to you only by a doctor or a nurse into the vein (intravenously). under close monitoring. Your doctor will decide the correct dose for you depending upon your age, body weight and health condition.
SIDE EFFECTS OF NEOVEC 4MG
COMMON
- difficulty in breathing
- muscle weakness or paralysis
- dizziness
- flushing
- pain or irritation at the site of injection
- redness or itchy rashes of the skin
UNCOMMON
- altered effects (too effective or not effective enough)
- low blood pressure
- increased heart rate
- delay in recovery from the anesthetic effect
RARE
- bronchospasm (tightness of airway muscles)
Contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects after receiving NEOVEC 4MG:
- severe allergic reactions (such as skin rash, severe itching of the skin with raised lumps, blisters in the skin, swelling of the face, lips, tongue and/or throat with difficulty in breathing or swallowing)
- high fever, rigid muscle, rapid heart rate
- muscle weakness or paralysis
- dizziness, light-headedness or low blood pressure, fainting
- breathing difficulty, wheezing, or coughing
HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS
Pain and Irritation at the site of injection:
Place an ice pack on the injected site. Do not move the affected area frequently. If the symptom worsens, consult your doctor.
Dizziness:
Avoid standing or walking after surgery. Try to rest and relax. Get enough sleep. Consult your doctor if you continue to feel dizzy for a prolonged period.
WARNING & PRECAUTIONS
PREGNANCY
NEOVEC 4MG should be used in pregnant women only if it is considered necessary by the physician. Therefore, inform your doctor if you are pregnant or think you may be pregnant before receiving NEOVEC 4MG. However, NEOVEC 4MG can be used during a caesarean section in pregnant women under close medical supervision.
BREASTFEEDING
NEOVEC 4MG should be used in breastfeeding women only if it is considered necessary by the physician. Therefore, inform your doctor before receiving it.
DRIVING AND USING MACHINES
Do not drive or operate any machines if you feel tired, weak, or dizzy after receiving NEOVEC 4MG.
KIDNEY
NEOVEC 4MG should be used with caution in patients with kidney problems. Therefore, inform your doctor before receiving it.
LIVER
NEOVEC 4MG should be used with caution in patients having problems with their liver or gall bladder. Therefore, inform your doctor before receiving it.
ALLERGY
Do not receive NEOVEC 4MG if you are allergic to Vecuronium or any other muscle relaxants (such as pancuronium).
LUNGS
NEOVEC 4MG should be used with caution in patients with lung or respiratory problems. Therefore, inform your doctor before receiving it.
HEART DISEASE
NEOVEC 4MG should be used with caution in patients with heart problems. Therefore, inform your doctor before receiving it.
OTHERS
Before receiving NEOVEC 4MG inform your physician if you:
- have problems in blood circulation
- have edema (swelling of body parts)
- have nerve or muscle disorder (such as myasthenia gravis, poliomyelitis, Eaton-Lambert syndrome etc.)
- have low potassium or calcium levels in the blood
- have high magnesium levels in the blood
- are dehydrated (due to vomiting or diarrhea)
- have increased carbon dioxide in the blood (alkalosis)
- have increased acid level in the blood (acidosis)
- are obese or overweight
- have cachexia (muscle loss from the body)
- have drop in body temperature during anesthesia
- have burns
Use in pediatrics:
NEOVEC 4MG should be used in infants, children, and in adolescents (aged between 0-18 years) under close medical supervision.
Use in geriatrics:
NEOVEC 4MG should be used with caution in elderly patients. Therefore, consult your doctor for advice before receiving it.
INTERACTIONS
A. Drug-Drug interactions:
Before receiving NEOVEC 4MG inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines:
- lithium (a medicine used to treat bipolar disorder)
- quinidine (a medicine used to treat irregular heartbeat)
- quinine (a medicine used to treat malaria)
- betamethasone, prednisone, prednisolone, triamcinolone, methylprednisolone (used to treat inflammation in the body)
- thiopental (a medicine used to treat convulsion)
- magnesium salts (used to treat low magnesium levels in the blood)
- lignocaine (a medicine used to cause temporary numbness of a confined area)
- succinylcholine, suxamethonium, pancuronium, d-tubocurarine, metocurine, and gallamine (used to relax muscles)
- neomycin, streptomycin, kanamycin, gentamicin, lincosamide and polypeptide antibiotics, acylamino-penicillin antibiotics, and dihydrostreptomycin (used to treat bacterial infection)
- phenytoin, carbamazepine and thiopental (used to treat fits and seizures)
- cimetidine (a medicine used to reduce stomach acid production)
- diuretics (used to improve urine output) Ex. furosemide, chlorothiazide
- medicines used to treat heart problems (such as atenolol propranolol, amlodipine, nifedipine)
- calcium chloride and potassium chloride
Overdosage:
NEOVEC 4MG will be administered to you only by a doctor or a nurse in a hospital, and so it is unlikely to receive an overdose. However, consult your doctor or nurse if you experience any unusual symptoms.
