NEO MERCAZOLE 20MG TABLET contains Carbimazole which belongs to the group of medicines called Antithyroid agents. It is used in adults and children to reduce the formation of thyroid hormones in hyperthyroidism (an over-active thyroid gland), to restore the normal function of the thyroid before its partial removal by surgery and together with other treatments for overactive thyroid.
Your doctor may ask you for occasional blood, liver tests to determine how you are responding to treatment. NEO MERCAZOLE 20MG TABLET is not recommended to use in patients with severe liver, blood disorders or history of inflammation of the pancreas (acute pancreatitis).
Before taking NEO MERCAZOLE 20MG TABLET inform your doctor if you have bone marrow depression, mild or moderate liver problems, swelling in your neck called an intrathoracic goitre or intolerant to certain sugars. NEO MERCAZOLE 20MG TABLET should be used with caution in pregnant women as it can harm the unborn baby. It is not recommended for use in breast-feeding women. Consult your doctor before taking.
NEO MERCAZOLE 20MG TABLET is not recommended for use in children below 2 years of age and should be used with caution in elderly patients above 65 years of age. Contact your doctor if you experience any unusual symptoms.
NEO MERCAZOLE 20MG TABLET works by decreasing the uptake and concentration of inorganic iodine by thyroid, it also reduces the formation of thyroxine, hence reducing the production of the thyroid hormones (T3 and T4).
Take NEO MERCAZOLE 20MG TABLET as advised by your physician. Swallow the medicine with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight, and disease condition.
Stop taking NEO MERCAZOLE 20MG TABLET and consult your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:
NEO MERCAZOLE 20MG TABLET should be used with caution in pregnant women or women planning to have a baby. It will be given to you only if the potential benefit outweighs the potential risk to you and your unborn baby.
Use reliable contraception from the time you start treatment and during treatment to avoid pregnancy. Consult your doctor before taking it.
NEO MERCAZOLE 20MG TABLET is generally not recommended for use in breastfeeding women as it may pass through breast milk. Consult your doctor before taking it.
Do not drive or operate any machines after taking NEO MERCAZOLE 20MG TABLET until you are sure your judgement and coordination are not affected.
