  • NEBISTAR SA contains Nebivolol and Amlodipine
  • Nebivolol works by exertation of dilating action on blood vessels, which contributes as well to lower blood pressure
  • Amlodipine works by relaxing blood vessels thereby improving blood supply to the heart muscle which then receives more oxygen and as a result chest pain is prevented

NEBISTAR SA is used in the treatment of

  • raised blood pressure
  • mild and moderate chronic heart failure

Talk to your doctor before taking NEBISTAR SA If you:

  • are allergic to nebivolol or amlodipine or any of the other ingredients of this medicine
  • have low blood pressure
  • have serious heart rhythm problem, severe increase in blood pressure (hypertensive crisis)
  • have asthma or wheezing
  • have untreated pheochromocytoma, a tumor located on top of the kidneys (in the adrenal glands)
  • have serious liver or kidney disease
  • have untreated chronic heart failure
  • have poor circulation in the arms or legs, e.g. Raynaud’s disease or syndrome, cramp-like pains when walking
  • are diabetic
  • have overactive thyroid gland
  • have psoriasis (a skin disease - scaly pink patches)
  • have to undergo any surgery

Tell your doctor if you are taking, have recently taken or might take any other medicines such as:

  • mexiletine, moxonidine, nicardipine used for controlling the blood pressure or medicines for heart problems
  • sedatives and therapies for mental illness
  • phenothiazine (also used for vomiting and nausea)
  • medicines for depression e.g. amitriptyline, paroxetine, fluoxetine.
  • medicines used for anaesthesia during an operation
  • medicines for asthma, blocked nose or certain eye disorders
  • baclofen (an antispasmodic drug)
  • amifostine (a protective medicine used during cancer treatment)
  • ketoconazole, itraconazole used for fungal infection
  • ritonavir, indinavir, nelfinavir (medicines used to treat HIV)
  • rifampicin, erythromycin, clarithromycin (antibiotics)
  • tacrolimus, ciclosporine (medicine used to alter the way your immune system works)

  • Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you
  • NEBISTAR SA may be taken before or after the meal, with some amount of water
  • The dose should be taken once daily

Treatment of raised blood pressure (hypertension)

  • The usual dose is 1 tablet per day
  • Elderly patients and patients with a kidney disorder will usually start with ½ (half) tablet daily

Treatment of chronic heart failure

  • Your doctor will start your treatment with ¼ (quarter) tablet per day
  • This may be increased after 1-2 weeks to ½ (half) tablet per day, then to 1 tablet per day and then to 2 tablets per day until the correct dose is reached for you
  • The maximum recommended dose is 2 tablets (10mg) a day
  • You will need to be under the close supervision for 2 hours by an experienced physician when you start treatment and every time your dose is increased
  • You should not stop treatment abruptly as this can make your heart failure worse
  • Patients with serious kidney problems should not take this medicine

If you take more NEBISTAR SA

  • If you take more NEBISTAR SA , tell your doctor immediately
  • The most frequent symptoms and signs of a NEBISTAR SA overdose are very slow heart beat, low blood pressure with possible fainting, breathlessness such as in asthma, and acute heart failure

f you forget to take NEBISTAR SA 

  • If you forget to take a dose, just take your next scheduled dose at the correct time
  • Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose

If you stop taking NEBISTAR SA 

  • You should always consult with your doctor before stopping NEBISTAR SA treatment, You should not stop NEBISTAR SA treatment abruptly as this can temporarily make your heart failure worse
