What NATCOCIL M is used for?

It is used to treat,

  • high blood pressure
  • angina pectoris (pain in the chest caused by blockages in the arteries to the heart)
  • irregular heart rhythm (arrhythmia)

Talk to your doctor, before taking this medicine, if you:

  • are allergic to metoprolol, clinidipine, other beta-blockers or any other ingredients of this medicine
  • have severe aortic stenosis
  • have cardiogenic shock
  • have recent history of unstable angina or MI (Myocardial Infarction)
  • have heart failure and hypotension
  • suffer with rhythm problems or heart failure or shock caused by heart problems
  • suffer with blocked blood vessels, angina including blood circulation problems (which may cause your fingers blue)
  • suffer with untreated phaeochromocytoma (high blood pressure due to a tumour near the kidney)
  • suffer from increased acidity of the blood (metabolic acidosis)
  • have or have had breathing difficulties or asthma including COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease)
  • suffer with hypoglycemia (low blood sugar)
  • have kidney or liver disease
  • have difficulties in passing urine
  • have low levels of potassium (hypokalaemia) or sodium (hyponatraemia) in your blood
  • have high levels of calcium (hypercalcaemia)
  • suffer with gout due to high levels of uric acid (hyperuricaemia)
  • Caution should be exercised during NATCOCIL M use in pregnancy
  • Lactating mothers should consult a physician before taking this medicine
  • If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or planning to have baby, ask your doctor for advice before taking this medicine


  • NATCOCIL M may influence your ability to drive and use machines because it may cause dizziness and fatigue

Tell your doctor if you are taking any other following medicines such as: 

  • aldesleukin, quinidine, phenytoin, rifampicin, erythromycin
  • antipsychotics
  • medicine to treat erectile dysfunction
  • anaesthetics
  • cimetidine (to treat stomach ulcers)
  • aldesleukin (to treat some cancers, particularly cancer of the kidney)
  • alprostadil (to treat erectile dysfunction)
  • indometacin or celecoxib (Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs - NSAIDs)
  • rifampicin (antibiotic) or terbinafine (antifungal)
  • cocaine
  • oestrogens such as a contraceptive pill or hormone replacement therapy
  • corticosteroids (e.g. hydrocortisone, prednisolone)
  • other beta-blockers e.g. eye drops.
  • adrenaline (epinephrine) or noradrenaline (norepinephrine) used in anaphylactic shock
  • medicines used to treat diabetes
  • moxisylyte (used in Raynaud’s syndrome)
  • mefloquine (to treat malaria)
  • tropisetron (to prevent nausea and vomiting)
  • xanthines such as aminophylline or theophylline (to treat asthma)
  • medicines to treat migranes such as ergotamine
  • digoxin (to treat heart conditions) hydroxychloroquine (to treat rheumatoid arthritis)
  • Always take NATCOCIL M exactly as your doctor has told you
  • Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water

If you take more NATCOCIL M 

  • If you take more NATCOCIL M than you should, consult your doctor immediately

If you forget to take NATCOCIL M 

  • If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember, unless it is nearly time for your next dose. Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose

If you stop taking NATCOCIL M 

  • Do not suddenly stop taking NATCOCIL M as this may cause worsening of heart failure and increase the risk of heart attack
Very Rare

Like all medicine, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.


  • allergic reaction such as itching, difficulty breathing or swelling of the face, lips, throat or tongue


  • dizziness
  • swelling of face, lips, eyelids, tongue, hands and feet 
  • fast heartbeat


  • tiredness, headache, a slow heart rate
  • feeling faint on standing due to low blood pressure
  • shortness of breath with or without strenuous physical activity, feeling or being sick, stomach pain


  • an increase in weight
  • depression
  • reduced alertness
  • drowsiness
  • difficulty in sleeping
  • nightmares
  • abnormal skin sensations (tingling, tickling, itching or burning)
  • muscle weakness and cramps
  • an aggravation of heart failure
  • water retention
  • wheezing
  • vomiting
  • increased sweating


  • muscle pain
  • decrease in libido


  • depression, nightmares, inability to think clearly
  • sleepiness or difficulty in sleeping, tingling
  • difficulty breathing, heart failure, irregular heart rate, palpitation, water retention causing swelling
  • Raynaud’s phenomenon (causing pain, numbness, coldness and blueness of the fingers), diarrhoea or constipation, skin rash, muscle cramps


  • changes in the results of blood tests, effects on blood clotting causing easy or unexplained bruising
  • changes in personality, hallucinations, visual disturbances, dry or irritated eyes, ringing in the ears, loss of hearing with high doses
  • heart conduction problems, chest pain
  • gangrene in patients with severe poor circulation
  • runny nose, dry mouth
  • weight gain, sensitivity to light, increased sweating, hair loss
  • worsening or new psoriasis joint inflammation (arthritis), disturbances of sexual desire and performance, changes in liver function tests
