INTRODUCTION

MILIXIM O DT 100MG TABLET is a combination of Cefixime and Ofloxacin which belongs to the group of medicines called Antibiotics. It is used in adults to treat typhoid fever (infection caused by Salmonella typhi, accompanied by high fever, stomach pain, headache and diarrhoea).

MILIXIM O DT 100MG TABLET can also be used in the treatment of urinary tract, ear, skin, nose, throat, respiratory tract (Ex. bronchitis and pneumonia), soft tissues and intraabdominal infections and gonorrhoea (sexually transmitted infection). It is also used to prevent infections following surgical procedures.

Before taking MILIXIM O DT 100MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you ever had colitis (inflammation of intestines), tendonitis due to quinolone-type antibiotic, have fits, liver or kidney problems. Avoid consuming alcohol while taking MILIXIM O DT 100MG TABLET.

MILIXIM O DT 100MG TABLET is not recommended for use in pregnant women, breastfeeding women, and children (under 16 years of age) so, consult your doctor before taking it.

The most common side-effects of taking MILIXIM O DT 100MG TABLET are nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, dizziness, stomach-ache etc. Consult your doctor if any of the symptoms deteriorate.

USES OF MILIXIM O DT 100MG TABLET

Used to

  • treat typhoid fever, urinary tract, ear, skin, nose, throat, respiratory tract, soft tissues and intraabdominal infections and gonorrhoea
  • prevent post-surgical infections

HOW MILIXIM O DT 100MG TABLET WORKS

MILIXIM O DT 100MG TABLET kills the infecting bacteria where Cefixime interferes with the formation of bacterial cell walls and forms holes in them, and Ofloxacin inhibits a bacterial enzyme involved in repairing and replicating the DNA (genetic material) of bacteria, thus making the organism unable to reproduce or repair themselves.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

Take MILIXIM O DT 100MG TABLET as advised by your physician. Try to drink more water to prevent formation of highly concentrated urine.

For Tablet: Swallow MILIXIM O DT 100MG TABLET with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew it.

For Dispersible Tablet: Disperse MILIXIM O DT 100MG TABLET in the specified quantity of water as mentioned in the label. Consume the medicine immediately after reconstitution.

Your doctor will decide an appropriate dose and duration of therapy for you depending upon your age, body weight and severity of the infection.  Continue to take MILIXIM O DT 100MG TABLET for the stipulated duration prescribed by your doctor to achieve better results.

SIDE EFFECTS OF MILIXIM O DT 100MG TABLET

COMMON

  • eye irritation
  • rashes
  • agitation (anxiety)
  • stomach-ache
  • diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting
  • flatulence
  • dizziness
  • indigestion

RARE

Stop taking MILIXIM O DT 100MG TABLET and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:

  • severe diarrhoea
  • liver problems
  • hallucinations (perceiving scenarios that are not real)
  • suicidal thoughts
  • palpitations (throbbing sensation)
  • breathing problems
  • blurred vision

HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS

Nausea:

Take MILIXIM O DT 100MG TABLET with, or just after meals. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating oily or spicy foods. If nausea persists, contact your doctor.

Vomiting:

Get adequate rest. Drink lots of fluids, especially water. Have small sips if you feel sick. Eat when you feel like eating – you don't have to eat or avoid any specific foods. Do not take any medicine for vomiting without your doctor's consultation. If vomiting does not get better, contact your doctor.

Diarrhea:

Drink lots of fluids, like water or fruit juice to maintain hydration. Check with your doctor before taking any medicine for diarrhea. If diarrhea does not get better, contact your doctor.

Stomach pain:

Try to rest and relax. Eat and drink slowly or try eating smaller meals more frequently. Keep a heat pad on your stomach. If your stomach still aches, contact your doctor.

Indigestion:

Raise your head and shoulders up while sleeping to prevent stomach acid from coming up. Do not eat 3 to 4 hours before going to sleep and avoid tea, coffee, cola, or alcohol. If indigestion does not improve, contact your doctor.

Dizziness:

Lie down until dizziness is improved, then get up slowly. Don’t hurry and move slowly and carefully. Get adequate rest. Drink plenty of water and other fluids. Avoid coffee, cigarettes, alcohol, and drugs. If dizziness persists, consult your doctor.

Skin rash:

Avoid hot showers because hot water can further irritate your skin. Do not scratch the affected area. Use protective clothing when going outdoors. Regularly moisturize your skin. Consult your doctor if your skin rash gets worse.

PREGNANCY

MILIXIM O DT 100MG TABLET is not recommended for use in pregnant women. Consult your doctor before taking it.

BREASTFEEDING

MILIXIM O DT 100MG TABLET is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women. Consult your doctor before taking it.

ALCOHOL

Avoid consuming alcohol while taking MILIXIM O DT 100MG TABLET. Consult your doctor for advice.

KIDNEY

MILIXIM O DT 100MG TABLET is not recommended for use in patients with kidney impairment. Patients on dialysis should be closely monitored. Consult your doctor before taking it.

LIVER

MILIXIM O DT 100MG TABLET is not recommended for use in patients having liver impairment. Consult your doctor before taking it.

ALLERGY

Do not take MILIXIM O DT 100MG TABLET if you are allergic to Ofloxacin, Cefixime, or any of the other ingredients of this medicine, or other Cephalosporins, Penicillin or fluroquinolone antibiotics.

OTHERS

MILIXIM O DT 100MG TABLET is not recommended for use if you:

  • have epilepsy (fits)
  • have or had tendonitis (inflammation of bones)

Before taking MILIXIM O DT 100MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you have:

  • gastrointestinal disease such as colitis (inflammation of colon)

Use in paediatrics:

MILIXIM O DT 100MG TABLET is not recommended for use in children (younger than 16 years old). Consult your child’s doctor for advice.

INTERACTIONS

A. Drug - Drug interactions:

Before taking MILIXIM O DT 100MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines:

  • medicines used to thin the blood (Ex. warfarin, heparin)
  • carbamazepine (used to treat fits)
  • medicines or dietary supplements containing iron or zinc
  • medicines used to relieve acidity or stomach ulcers (Ex. aluminium hydroxide, magnesium carbonate, sucralfate)
  • cyclosporin (used to prevent the body from rejecting a transplanted organ)
  • medicines used to control high blood sugar levels (Ex. glibenclamide, metformin)
  • medicines used to reduce pain (Ex. ibuprofen, diclofenac)
  • certain vaccines and herbal preparations

Overdosage:

If you or anyone else accidentally take too much of MILIXIM O DT 100MG TABLET, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. It may cause poisoning and serious side effects.

If you forget to take a dose of MILIXIM O DT 100MG TABLET, take it as soon as you remember. However, omit the missed dose if it's almost time for the next one. Do not take the medicine two times to make up for the missed dose.

Is MILIXIM O DT 100MG TABLET safe for kidney patients?

MILIXIM O DT 100MG TABLET is not recommended for patients having kidney impairment and its dose must be adjusted in patients on dialysis. Consult your doctor before taking it.

Can I take other medicines with MILIXIM O DT 100MG TABLET?

Before taking MILIXIM O DT 100MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you are taking, have taken, or might take any other medicine, including prescription, over the counter or any herbal medicine, as these might cause serious side effects by interacting with each other.
