INTRODUCTION

MIDSONE SF OINTMENT is a combination of Mometasone and Salicylic acid which belongs to the group of medicines called Dermatological agents. MIDSONE SF OINTMENT is used to treat psoriasis, especially in case of intensive scaling, in adults and adolescents (above 12 years of age).

Psoriasis is a type of skin disease that causes a skin rash with itchy, scaly patches, most commonly on the knees, elbows, trunk and scalp which is a common, long-term disease that occurs due to triggering factors such as infections, cuts, burns and/or certain medications which is generally painful and tends to go through cycles, flaring for a few weeks to months.

Avoid applying MIDSONE SF OINTMENT if you have bacterial infection such as pyoderma (pus-producing skin disease), syphilis (sexually transmited bacterial disease), tuberculosis, viral infections such as herpes simplex, chicken pox, fungal infections such as dermatophyte, yeast and rosacea (type of skin disease) marked by reddens and or other changes of the skin in the facial area.

Before applying MIDSONE SF OINTMENT, inform your doctor if you are receiving ultraviolet treatment and have any other skin problems. MIDSONE SF OINTMENT is not recommended for use during pregnancy and breast-feeding women should consult their doctor before use.

MIDSONE SF OINTMENT is recommended for use in children and adolescents (above 12 years of age). The most common side effects of using MIDSONE SF OINTMENT are weak to moderate burning sensation at the site of application, itching and localized thinning of the skin. Consult your doctor if any of the side effect gets worse.

  • Treats psoriasis, especially in case of intensive scaling

HOW MIDSONE SF OINTMENT WORKS

MIDSONE SF OINTMENT is used to treat psoriasis, where Mometasone reduces the redness and itchiness of skin by blocking the production of prostaglandin (chemical messenger), which is responsible for causing redness and itchiness of skin and Salicylic acid helps in softening and removing the psoriasis scales by acting as a scale filter which causes shedding of outer layer of the skin thereby providing relief from the symptoms of psoriasis.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

Always apply MIDSONE SF OINTMENT as directed by your physician. It is for external use only. On the affected area, apply a thin layer of this medicine. It should not be applied under bandages or similar. Avoid applying the medicine around your eyes or mucous membrane. Your doctor will decide the duration and frequency of using this medicine depending upon severity of the condition. 

SIDE EFFECTS OF MIDSONE SF OINTMENT

COMMON

  • weak to moderate burning sensation on the site of application
  • itching
  • localized thinning of the skin

UNCOMMON

  • stretch marks
  • skin infections such as folliculitis, cellulitis, carbuncles
  • rosacea (skin condition that cause blushing or flushing in face)
  • irregular bleeding into the skin (ecchymoses)
  • inflammation of the hair follicles

RARE

  • increased hair growth
  • hypopigmentation (a loss of skin pigment)
  • hypersensitivity

Stop using MIDSONE SF OINTMENT and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:

  • irritation, including excessive dryness of skin

HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS

Skin itching:

Avoid hot showers because hot water can irritate your skin further. Do not scratch the affected area. Avoid sun exposure or UV rays as it may sensitize your skin. Use sunscreen and protective clothing when going outdoor. Regularly moisturize your skin after consulting the doctor. Consult your doctor if the symptom does not improve.

WARNING & PRECAUTIONS

PREGNANCY

MIDSONE SF OINTMENT is not recommended for use during the last three months of pregnancy and it should be avoided during the first six months of pregnancy. Consult your doctor before applying MIDSONE SF OINTMENT.

BREASTFEEDING

Consult your doctor before applying MIDSONE SF OINTMENT if you are a breastfeeding woman.

DRIVING AND USING MACHINES

MIDSONE SF OINTMENT should not affect your ability to drive or operate machines. Consult your doctor before applying MIDSONE SF OINTMENT.

ALLERGY

MIDSONE SF OINTMENT is not recommended for use if you are allergic to Mometasone, salicylic acid or any other ingredients of this medicine.

OTHERS

MIDSONE SF OINTMENT is not recommended for use if you:

  • have bacterial infection such as pyoderma (pus-producing skin disease)
  • have syphilis (sexually transmited bacterial disease)
  • have tuberculosis
  • have viral infections such as herpes simplex, chicken pox, shingles, warts, genital warts, molluscum contagiosum
  • have fungal infections such as dermatophyte, yeast
  • have parasitic infections such as leishmaniasis, malaria and toxoplasmosis
  • have post-vaccine reactions or inflammations of the skin in the facial area such as perioral dermatitis
  • signs of rosacea (skin disease) such as reddening, scaling, or other changes of the skin in the facial area
  • have acne (pimples)
  • have skin atrophy (thinning of the skin)

Before applying MIDSONE SF OINTMENT, inform your doctor if you:

  • are receiving ultraviolet treatment

Use in Pediatrics:

MIDSONE SF OINTMENT is recommended for use in children and adolescents (above 12 years of age). Consult your child’s doctor for advice before applying MIDSONE SF OINTMENT to your child.

Use in Geriatrics:

MIDSONE SF OINTMENT should be used with caution in elderly patients (aged 65 years or above). Consult your doctor before applying MIDSONE SF OINTMENT.

INTERACTIONS

Before using MIDSONE SF OINTMENT, inform your doctor if you are using any medicines including prescription or non-prescription medicines.

Overdosage:

If you or anyone else accidentally applied too much of MIDSONE SF OINTMENT, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital.
