What is Mebeverine used for?

Mebeverine is used for relieving the symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome, such as stomach pain, bloating and persistent diarrhoea.

Mebeverine may also be prescribed for other conditions as determined by the doctor.

Mebeverine belongs to the class of drugs called anti-spasmodics. This drug acts directly on the smooth muscles of gastro-intestinal tract without affecting the normal gut motility. The exact mechanism of action involved is still unknown.
