INTRODUCTION

MEGACHOLIN RF 1000MG INJECTION contains Citicoline which belongs to a group of medicines called Psychostimulants. MEGACHOLIN RF 1000MG INJECTION is used in adults to treat disturbances of consciousness that occurs due to head injuries, brain operation, and acute cerebral infraction.

MEGACHOLIN RF 1000MG INJECTION is also used to treat Alzheimer’s disease (brain disease that affects memory and thinking skills) and memory loss due to Parkinson’s disease (age related degenerative brain condition). It is also indicated for use in the recovery phase of cerebral infarction (poor blood supply to the brain) in affected individuals. 

MEGACHOLIN RF 1000MG INJECTION is not recommended for use in patients allergic to Citicoline. It is also not recommended for use in patients suffering from hypertonia (muscle overactivity), persistent intracranial haemorrhages (bleeding inside the brain), and/or severe kidney disease.

Before receiving MEGACHOLIN RF 1000MG INJECTION, inform your doctor if you have a history of epilepsy/fits, suffering from depression, scheduled for a surgery, and/or have liver disorders.

MEGACHOLIN RF 1000MG INJECTION should be used with caution in pregnant and breastfeeding women only if it is clearly necessary.

MEGACHOLIN RF 1000MG INJECTION is advised to be used with caution in children and adolescents (aged below 18 years) only if it is clearly necessary. It is also advised to be used with caution in elderly patients (aged above 65 years) after consulting the doctor.

The most common side effects of receiving MEGACHOLIN RF 1000MG INJECTION are diarrhoea, nausea, stomach pain, rash, insomnia (sleeplessness), and/or occurrence/intensification of numbness. Consult your doctor if any of these symptoms worsens.

• Treats disturbances of consciousness that occurs due to head injuries, brain operation, and acute cerebral infraction.
• Treats Alzheimer’s disease and dementia (memory loss) due to Parkinson’s disease.

HOW MEGACHOLIN RF 1000MG INJECTION WORKS

MEGACHOLIN RF 1000MG INJECTION works by increasing the synthesis of phosphatidylcholine (chemical that produces acetylcholine, responsible for memory and other bodily functions) which leads to improved cerebral function and cognitive function in Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease. It also works by repairing neuronal membranes and damaged cholinergic neurons via potentiation of acetylcholine production and reduction of free fatty acid accumulation at stroke-induced nerve damage site which results in the prevention neuronal cell death thus helping in the recovery phase of cerebral infarction in affected individuals.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

MEGACHOLIN RF 1000MG INJECTION will be given to you only by a doctor or a nurse into a vein as an intravenous infusion or into a muscle as an intramuscular injection. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.

HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS

Diarrhea:

Drink plenty of water and stay hydrated. Try to avoid taking any medicine on your own to treat diarrhea. Consult and inform your doctor if the symptom worsens.

Nausea:

Take MEGACHOLIN RF 1000MG INJECTION with or just after a meal. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating oil rich or spicy foods, sugary snacks and drinks. Avoid drinking too much liquid along with your meals, drink slowly in between meals. Inform your doctor if the condition worsens.

Rash:

Do not scratch the affected area. Wear protective clothing while going outdoors. Regularly moisturize your skin. Consult and inform your doctor if the symptom gets worse.

WARNING & PRECAUTIONS

PREGNANCY

MEGACHOLIN RF 1000MG INJECTION should be used with caution during pregnancy only if it is clearly necessary. Inform your doctor immediately if you get pregnant while on treatment with MEGACHOLIN RF 1000MG INJECTION. Consult your doctor before receiving the medicine.

BREASTFEEDING

MEGACHOLIN RF 1000MG INJECTION should be used with caution in breastfeeding women only if it is clearly necessary since it is not known whether the medicine passes through breast milk. Consult your doctor before receiving the medicine.

DRIVING AND USING MACHINES

Do not drive or operate any machines until the full effect of MEGACHOLIN RF 1000MG INJECTION is known.

ALCOHOL

Avoid consumption of alcohol while receiving MEGACHOLIN RF 1000MG INJECTION because it might the effect of the medicine.

KIDNEY

MEGACHOLIN RF 1000MG INJECTION is not recommended for use in patients with severe kidney problems. It should be used with caution in patients with mild to moderate kidney disease such as renal impairment. Consult your doctor before receiving the medicine.

LIVER

MEGACHOLIN RF 1000MG INJECTION should be received with caution in patients with liver disorders.  Consult your doctor before receiving the medicine.

ALLERGY

Do not receive MEGACHOLIN RF 1000MG INJECTION if you are allergic to Citicoline, and/or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.

INTERACTIONS

A.Drug - Drug interactions:

Before receiving MEGACHOLIN RF 1000MG INJECTION, inform your doctor if you are receiving any of the following medicine:

• levodopa, carbidopa, entacapone (medicines used to treat Parkinson’s disease)
• meclofenoxate (used as a dietary supplement to treat dementia)

Overdosage:

MEGACHOLIN RF 1000MG INJECTION will be administered to you only by a doctor or a nurse in a hospital, and so it is unlikely to receive an overdose. However, consult your doctor or nurse if you experience any unusual symptoms.
