What is MAXEPA?

Introduction:

Maxepa Capsule contains highly purified omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3 fatty acids are thought to help reduce the risk of heart disease and also to promotes healthy skin. They are also used along with diet and exercise to help lower levels of a certain blood fat (triglyceride) and to raise levels of "good" cholesterol (HDL). It may also be used to help treat high blood pressure or rheumatoid arthritis.

Omega-3 fatty acid contains two fatty acid namely, Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). They are commonly used for heart disease and high cholesterol. They are also used for boosting memory and thinking skills, for aiding infant and child development for certain eye disorders, and many other conditions. It might affect the process of blood clotting which in turn helps to reduce the risk of heart problems. Therefore, concomitant use of Maxepa Capsule with anticoagulants should be avoided.

How to manage side effects:

Feeling sick (nausea) or being sick (vomiting):

Take these capsules with, or just after, a meal or snack to ease feelings of sickness.

Bloating or wind;

Eat smaller and more frequent meals, eat and drink slowly, and exercise regularly. If the symptoms get worse, contact your doctor straight away.

Constipation: 

Eat more high fibre foods such as fresh fruit, vegetables and cereals, and drink plenty of water. Try to exercise more regularly, for example, by going for a daily walk or run.

Diarrhoea:

Drink lots of fluids, such as water or squash, to avoid dehydration. Do not take any other medicines to treat diarrhoea without speaking to a doctor.

Stomach pain:

Try to rest and relax. You can also eat and drink slowly or have smaller and more frequent meals. Putting a heat pad or covered hot water bottle on your stomach may also help. If you are in a lot of pain, speak to your doctor.

Skin irritation:

Avoid hot showers or baths because hot water can irritate the skin. Make sure to pat dry your skin after a bath or shower. Do not rub or scratch the affected area. Avoid excessive sun exposure. Always use sunscreen and protective clothing when outdoors. Moisturizers can be used regularly to soothe and hydrate the affected area. If it does not get better within a week, speak to a doctor.

  • Take 1-2 capsule per day or as directed by the physician.
  • You can take this medicine at meals time to avoid unwanted gastrointestinal discomfort.
  • Your doctor will decide the duration of the therapy based on your condition.
  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to any of its ingredients.
  • It should be used with caution in patients who have trauma, kidney disease, diabetes, liver disease, bleeding disorder or in elderly patients.
