INTRODUCTION

LYXUMIA 20MCG PEN contains Lixisenatide which belongs to a group of medicines called antidiabetic agent. It is indicated as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus. It also combined with other oral antidiabetic medicines.

Lixisenatide is a GLP-1 receptor agonist which increases glucose-dependent insulin release, decreases glucagon secretion, and slows gastric emptying. It is a peptide containing 44 amino acids, which is amidated at the C-terminal amino acid. In the pancreas, it results in increased glucose-stimulated insulin exocytosis by beta islet cells and this produces a decrease in blood glucose due to increased glucose uptake by tissues.

Always use LYXUMIA 20MCG PEN as advised by your doctor or nurse. Tell your physician if you have liver, kidney or heart problems, are pregnant or breastfeeding. This medicine is not suitable for use in children and adolescents below 18 years of age. The common side effects are nausea, vomiting, headache, diarrhoea and dizziness.
