Talk to your doctor before taking this medicine, if you:

  • are allergic to Bisacodyl or to any of the ingredients of this medicine
  • are intolerant to or cannot digest some sugars (lactose and sucrose)
  • have severe dehydration
  • have severe abdominal pain with nausea and vomiting
  • have blockage or inflammation of the bowel (small or large intestine)
  • If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor for advice before taking this medicine
  • LUPILAX 5MG should not be recommended for children under 4 years of age
  • LUPILAX 5MG may feel dizzy or faint while taking this medicine. If this happens to you, do not drive or use machines

Tell your doctor if you are taking, have recently taken or might take any other medicines such as:

  • diuretics such as bendrofluazide or furosemide
  • steroid medicines such as prednisolone
  • antacids or proton pump inhibitors, medicines which reduce stomach acid
  • any other laxatives
  • Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you
  • Swallow the tablets whole with water
  • LUPILAX 5MG should not be taken every day for more than five day
  • Take one or two tablets (5 to 10mg) daily before bedtime

If you take more LUPILAX 5MG

  • If you have taken more LUPILAX 5MG, contact your doctor or go to nearest hospital immediately

If you forgot to take LUPILAX 5MG

  • If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember. Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose

If you Stop taking LUPILAX 5MG

  • Do not stop taking LUPILAX 5MG until your doctor tells you to stop

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects although not everybody gets them.


  • abdominal cramps or pain
  • diarrhoea
  • nausea
  • vomiting
  • abdominal discomfort
  • dizziness
  • blood in the stools
  • swelling of the face or throat and difficulty in breathing or dizziness
  • colitis including ischaemic colitis (inflammation of the large intestine which causes abdominal pain and diarrhoea)
  • dehydration
  • skin rash
  • fainting

What is constipation?

  • Constipation is an occasional problem for some people, for others, it may happen more often when the normal muscle actions in the bowel (large intestine) slow down. This can mean that the material is not easily eliminated from the body

The cause of constipation is associated with:

  • sudden change of diet
  • a diet with not enough fiber
  • loss of ‘tone’ of the bowel muscles in older people
  • pregnancy
  • medicines such as morphine or codeine
  • having to stay in bed for a long time
  • lack of exercise

These healthy tips are recommended to try and prevent constipation happening:

  • eat a balanced diet including fresh fruit and vegetables
  • drink enough water so that you do not become dehydrated
  • keep up your exercise and stay fit
  • Keep this medicine out of reach of children
  • Do not use this medicine after the expiry date
  • Store at room temperature (15-25ºC)
