What is Metoprolol used for?

Metoprolol is used to treat chest pain (angina) and high blood pressure (hypertension). By lowering high blood pressure, this drug helps prevent kidney problems and strokes. It belongs to a group of drugs called beta-blockers, which is also used to treat or prevent heart attacks. This medicine may also be used to treat other conditions as determined by your doctor.

How to take Metoprolol?

The dosage of Metoprolol prescribed to each patient will vary. Always follow your physician’s instructions and/or the directions on the prescription drug label.

Metoprolol should be taken with food or right after a meal. Take this medication at the same time every day.

If your physician has instructed or directed you to take Metoprolol medication in a regular schedule and you have missed a dose of this medicine, take it as soon as you remember. However, if your next dose is less than 4 hours away, then skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not double the doses unless otherwise directed.
