LIVAFIN CP 0.25% contains Amorolfine which belongs to the group of medicines called antifungals. It is used in the treatment of fungal skin infections caused by dermatophytes such as tinea pedis (athlete foot), tinea cruris (also known as jock itch, that causes a red and itchy rash in the groin and inner thighs), tinea corporis (also known as ringworm, a fungal infection of arms and legs) and tinea manuum (fungal infection on both hands).
It can also be used to treat cutaneous candidiasis and pityriasis versicolor (a yeast infection of the skin that causes small, discoloured patches of skin). Amorolfine effectively kills the infection-causing organisms by inhibiting the biosynthesis of ergosterol. It alters cell membrane permeability, disrupts cellular metabolic processes and causes cell death.
