INTRODUCTION

INSTGRA 50MG contain dolutegravir which belongs to a group of anti-retroviral medicines called integrase inhibitors (INIs). It is used to treat HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) infection in adults, adolescents, and children over 6 years old, who weigh at least 15 kg. HIV is a virus that attack cell that help the body fight infection, making a person more vulnerable to other infection and disease. This virus can be transmitted through contact with infected blood, semen, or vaginal fluid. This medicine can reduce the amount of virus in your body and maintains it at a low level. It helps to increases the CD4, a type of white blood cell that are important in helping your body to fight infection. This medicine is always used in combination with other anti-retroviral medicines (combination therapy).

Always take INSTGRA 50MG exactly as your doctor has told you. This medicine can be taken with or without food. It is strictly not recommended for use in children under 6 years of age and weighing less than 15 kg. Do not drive or operate machinery while taking this medicine, since it may cause dizziness and less alertness. Before taking this medicine tell your doctor if you have ever had kidney disease, heart disease, skin problems. Pregnant and breastfeeding women should consult their doctor before taking this medicine. The common side effects are headache, diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, rash, itching (pruritus), stomach pain, insomnia, abnormal dreams, dizziness, depression (feelings of deep sadness and unworthiness) and anxiety.

HOW INSTGRA 50MG WORKS

It works by inhibiting the HIV integrase by binding to the active site and blocking the strand transfer step of retroviral DNA, which is essential in the HIV replication cycle, resulting in the inhibition of viral activity.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

Always take INSTGRA 50MG exactly as your doctor has told you. This medicine can be taken with or without food. It should be swallowed whole with water. Do not crush or chew the medicine.

SIDE EFFECTS OF INSTGRA 50MG

COMMON

  • headache
  • diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting
  • rash, itching (pruritus)
  • stomach pain
  • insomnia, abnormal dreams
  • dizziness
  • depression (feelings of deep sadness and unworthiness)

HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS

Headache:

Apply hot or cold-water bag on your head. Take rest in a quiet and dark room. Drink tea or coffee.

Diarrhoea:

Drink lot of fluid such as water or squash, to avoid dehydration. Do not take any other medicine without talking to a doctor.

Nausea and vomiting:

Keep try taking this medicine with, or just after, a meal or snack and stick to simple meals and do not eat rich or spicy food.

Stomach pain:

Keep try to rest and relax. Eat and drink slowly and smaller and frequent meals. Applying a heat pad or covered hot water bottle on your stomach may also help. If still pain persists, speak to your doctor.

Dizziness:

Get up and move around to feel awake, take small naps to edge off the sleepiness. Give your eyes a break to avoid fatigue and eat a healthy food to boost energy.

WARNING & PRECAUTIONS

PREGNANCY

INSTGRA 50MG should be used with caution in pregnant women. Consult your doctor before taking this medicine.

BREASTFEEDING

INSTGRA 50MG is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women unless necessary. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.

DRIVING AND USING MACHINES

Do not drive or operate machinery while taking this medicine, since it may cause dizziness and less alertness.

ALCOHOL

Consumption of alcohol is not recommended during treatment with INSTGRA 50MG.

KIDNEY

INSTGRA 50MG should be used with caution in patients suffering from active kidney diseases. Consult your doctor before taking this medicine.

LIVER

INSTGRA 50MG should be used with caution in patients suffering from liver function impairment or active liver diseases. Consult your doctor before taking this medicine.

ALLERGY

Do not take INSTGRA 50MG if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to dolutegravir or any other ingredients in this medicine.

INTERACTIONS

Talk to your doctor if you are taking,

  • fampridine (also known as dalfampridine), used to treat multiple sclerosis
  • metformin (used to treat diabetes)
  • antacids (used to treat indigestion and heartburn)
  • calcium supplements, iron supplements and multivitamins
  • etravirine, efavirenz, fosamprenavir/ritonavir, nevirapine or tipranavir/ritonavir (used to treat HIV infection)
  • rifampicin (used to treat tuberculosis (TB) and other bacterial infections)
  • phenytoin, phenobarbital, oxcarbazepine, and carbamazepine (used to treat epilepsy or bipolar disorder)
  • herbal medicine such as St. John’s wort (Hypericum perforatum) (used to treat depression)
