INTRODUCTION

ILOPT 6MG contains Iloperidone which belongs to a group of medicines called atypical antipsychotics which works by changing the activity of certain natural substances in the brain. It is indicated to treat adults with schizophrenia. Schizophrenia is a condition in which a person’s thinking ability, feelings and behavior become abnormal. Iloperidone is a second-generation antipsychotic medication indicated by the FDA for the treatment of acute episodes of schizophrenia. It is an antagonist of dopamine type 2 (D2) and serotonin type 2 (5-HT2) receptors and its effects in schizophrenia are believed to be mediated by these pharmacologic actions.

Before taking ILOPT 6MG inform your doctor if you have liver, kidney or heart problems, are pregnant or breastfeeding. Your doctor will prescribe the right dose depends upon on your age and body weight. The common side effects are dizziness, dryness of mouth, nasal congestion, sleepiness and weight gain.

COMMON

HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS

Dizziness:

Get up and move around to feel awake, take small naps to edge off the sleepiness.  

Dry mouth:

Chew sugar-free gum or candies to stimulate the flow of saliva and limit your caffeine intake. Drink small sips of water regularly.

WARNING & PRECAUTIONS

PREGNANCY

ILOPT 6MG should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus.  Consult your doctor for advice.

BREASTFEEDING

ILOPT 6MG is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women unless necessary. Consult your doctor for advice.

DRIVING AND USING MACHINES

Do not drive or handle any machines if you feel somnolence (including sedation) while taking this medicine.

ALCOHOL

Consumption of alcohol is not recommended during treatment with ILOPT 6MG.

KIDNEY

ILOPT 6MG should be used with caution in patients with active kidney diseases or kidney failure. Consult your doctor for advice.

LIVER

ILOPT 6MG is not recommended in patients with severe liver diseases. Consult your doctor for advice.

ALLERGY

Do not take if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to Iloperidone.

OTHERS

Tell your physician before taking this medicine, if you have or had,

  • dementia-related psychosis
  • hyperglycemia and diabetes mellitus
  • dyslipidemia
  • history of seizure
  • neutropenia
  • aspiration pneumonia

INTERACTIONS

Tell your doctor if you are taking,

  • fluoxetine or paroxetine
  • ketoconazole and clarithromycin
  • dextromethorphan
  • midazolam
  • quinidine, procainamide, amiodarone, sotalol
  • chlorpromazine, thioridazine
  • gatifloxacin, moxifloxacin
  • pentamidine, levomethadyl acetate, methadone
