What is IBUGESIC?

What IBUGESIC is used for?

It can be used,

  • for the fast, effective relief of mild to moderate pain such as toothache, other dental pain, sore throat, headaches, minor aches and sprains and rheumatic and muscular pain
  • to relieve the symptoms of colds and flu and to reduce fever, including fever after vaccination at 3 months of age

Talk to your Doctor, if you:

  • Is allergic or hypersensitive to Ibuprofen or any of the other ingredients of this medicine
  • has heart attack or stroke
  • has asthma, a history of asthma or other allergic disease
  • has bowel problems or Crohn’s Disease
  • has other kidney, heart or liver problems
  • has connective tissue disorders such as SLE (Systemic Lupus Erythematosus)
  • has chickenpox
  • Do not take this medicine if you are in the last 3 months of pregnancy. Talk to your doctor if you are in the first 6 months of pregnancy
  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor for advice before taking this medicine
  • IBUGESIC is not recommended to children under 3 months of age

Tell your doctor if you are taking,

  • other pain killers (including NSAIDs)
  • aspirin (to prevent heart attacks or strokes)
  • warfarin, ticlopidine (used to thin the blood)
  • diuretics
  • captopril, beta-blockers such as atenolol medicines, angiotensin-ii receptor antagonists such as losartan (used to treat high blood pressure, heart problems)
  • corticosteroids (used for pain and swelling)
  • lithium (used for bipolar disorder)
  • methotrexate (used for cancer, psoriasis or rheumatism)
  • zidovudine (used for HIV infection)
  • quinolone antibiotics (used for infection)
  • fluoxetine (used for depression)
  • ciclosporin or tacrolimus (given after transplant surgery or for psoriasis or rheumatism)
  • Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you
  • It is important to shake the bottle for at least 10 seconds before use

If you take more IBUGESIC

  • If you have given more than you should or if children have taken the medicine by accident always contact a doctor or go to nearest hospital immediately
  • Symptoms of overdosage are: nausea, stomach pain, vomiting (may be blood streaked), headache, ringing in the ears, confusion and shaky eye movement. At high doses, drowsiness, chest pain, palpitations, loss of consciousness, convulsions (mainly in children), weakness and dizziness, blood in urine, cold body feeling, and breathing problems

If you forget to take IBUGESIC

  • If you forget to take a dose, take it after food as soon as you remember, but if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue as usual. Do not use a double dose to make up for a missed dose

If you stop taking IBUGESIC

  • Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor tells you to do so

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

  • allergic reactions including skin rashes, increased sensitivity to light, swelling of the face and tongue, inflammation of the blood vessels, fever or shock
  • passing blood in their faeces (stools/motions)
  • passing black tarry stools
  • vomiting blood or dark particles that look like ground coffee
  • unexplained wheezing, shortness of breath, skin rash (which may be severe and include blistering or peeling of the skin), itching or bruising, lightheadedness, racing of the heart or fluid retention e.g. swollen ankles, not passing enough urine
  • stiff neck, headache, nausea, vomiting, fever and disorientation
  • unexplained stomach pain, indigestion, heartburn
  • yellowing of the eyes and/or skin
  • severe sore throat with high fever or unexplained bleeding, bruising and tiredness
