Hypertension - Overview

High blood pressure, which is also referred to as hypertension, is a prevalent medical ailment in which the force of blood pushing against the arterial wall is too high consistently. This can lead to serious health problems such as heart disease, stroke, and kidney failure. Lifestyle changes such as regular exercise, maintaining a healthy diet, reducing salt intake, and managing stress can help prevent and manage hypertension. Regular check-ups and blood pressure (BP)monitoring are important for early detection and treatment of hypertension.

Causes Of Hypertension

Hypertension, or high blood pressure, can be caused by several factors, including genetics, lifestyle choices such as a poor diet or lack of exercise, age, stress, and certain medical conditions such as kidney disease, thyroid disorders, etc. Excessive alcohol consumption, smoking, and being overweight or obese can also increase the risk of developing hypertension. However, hypertension that is caused without any underlying reasons is called essential hypertension.

Treatment For Hypertension

There are various forms in which the hypertension medicines are available in the market. This majorly includes hypertension tablets, capsules and injections. Medications used for hypertension include beta-blockers like metoprolol and atenolol, ACE inhibitors such as lisinopril, calcium channel blockers like amlodipine, and diuretics like hydrochlorothiazide. These medications help lower blood pressure by various mechanisms such as reducing heart rate, relaxing blood vessels, and by promoting diuresis. Blood pressure tablets and capsules are used to maintain blood pressure in mild to moderate cases, while injections are preferred for severe cases. It is important to take hypertension medicines as directed by a doctor and to attend regular check-ups to monitor blood pressure levels and adjust treatment if necessary.
