What HUMATROPE 18IU 12MG is used for?

It is used for the long-term treatment of growth problems due to:

  • lack of growth hormone in children
  • turner’s syndrome (a genetic disorder affecting females)

Talk to your Doctor, if you:

  • are allergic to somatropin or any of the other ingredients of this medicine
  • have an active tumor (cancer)
  • are seriously ill due to complications following open heart or abdominal surgery, multiple injuries from an accident or respiratory failure
  • have chronic renal disease at time for renal transplantation
  • have a family history of diabetes mellitus
  • have growth hormone deficiency
  • have developed leukemia
  • are suffering from complications following surgery, trauma
  • have problems with vision
  • If you are pregnant or breast feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor for advice before taking this medicine
  • Your doctor will give you the right dose based on your child’s age and body weight
  • It has no influence on the ability to drive or use machinery

Tell your doctor if you are taking,

  • androgens, estrogens or anabolic steroids
  • medication for epilepsy or medication to suppress the body’s immune system
  • insulin (used to treat diabetes)
  • It must only be given by a doctor or nurse
  • It is given subcutaneously (under the skin) with a syringe or with the needle-free device

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

Very Rare
  • bleeding and bruising (purple discoloration of the skin) at the site of administration
  • swelling due to the buildup of fluid, especially in the hands and feet (edema)
  • mild high blood sugar (hyperglycemia)
  • joint or muscle pain
  • headache, numbness, tingling, burning or creeping on the skin (paresthesia)
  • hypothyroidism
  • an immune reaction to the growth hormone, which may show up in a blood test (antibody building)
  • increased tightness of muscle tone (hypertonia)
  • injection site reactions
  • weakness
  • stiffness in the legs and/or arms
  • difficulty falling asleep and/or difficulty staying asleep (insomnia)
  • pain or itching at the site of injection
  • anemia
  • rapid heart rate (tachycardia)
  • feel a whirling or spinning (vertigo)
  • double vision (diplopia) or involuntary eye movement (nystagmus)
  • papilloedema
  • low blood sugar (hypoglycemia)
  • hyperphosphatemia
  • muscle atrophy
  • bone pain
  • carpal tunnel syndrome
  • neoplasm malignant
  • sleepiness (somnolence)
  • personality disorders
  • urinary incontinence, hematuria, polyuria, increased urine frequency, urine abnormality
  • stiffness in the legs and arms
  • high blood pressure (hypertension)
  • diarrhoea
  • renal function test abnormal
  • tingling or numbness in certain areas of the body (neuropathy)
  • a buildup of fluid around the brain (appears as repeated or severe headache, blurred vision and nausea and/or vomiting)
  • numbness, tingling, burning or creeping on the skin (paresthesia)
  • insomnia (difficulty in sleep)

For Children only:

  • leukemia (the occurrence appears to be no more common than in children in the general population)
  • abnormal breasts enlargement (gynecomastia)
