GIFAXIN 100MG contains Rifaximin which belongs to the group of medicines called antibiotics. It is used to treat traveler´s diarrhea and irritable bowel syndrome with diarrhea (IBS-D) in adults. Travelers’ diarrhea is a common travel-related illness of digestive tract that commonly caused due to eating contaminated food or drinking contaminated water during travel resulting in loose stools and abdominal cramps. Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a chronic GI disorder that affects the large intestine. Symptoms include abdominal cramping, bloating, and diarrhea or constipation.
Rifaximin kills the toxic bacteria in the GI tract and which relieve the symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome and diarrhea. Along with this treatment, drink lots of fluids, such as water, squash or juice, to avoid dehydration. This medicine can be taken with or without food. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your condition.
The most common side effects of taking this medicine are headache, abdominal pain or bloating, constipation, diarrhea, nausea or vomiting. Taking this medicine, may also cause a reddish discolouration of your urine. If these symptoms bother you, contact your doctor. Patients with severe liver or kidney diseases, should inform your doctor before taking this medicine. GIFAXIN 100MG is not recommended for use in pregnant, breastfeeding women and in children (aged below 18 years).
