INTRODUCTION

GEROZ INJECTION contains Iron Sucrose which belongs to the group of medicines called Iron preparations. GEROZ INJECTION is used to treat iron deficiency anaemia (blood disorder marked by low iron level in blood) in patients when iron medications become ineffective or cause illness when taken by mouth.   

GEROZ INJECTION is not recommended for use in patients allergic to Iron Sucrose, and/or other injectable iron preparations/medicines. It is also not recommended for use in patients suffering from anaemia (not caused by iron deficiency), and in patients with excess iron production in the body or problems associated with ineffective use of iron in the body.

Before receiving GEROZ INJECTION, inform your doctor if you have systemic lupus erythematosus (autoimmune disease), rheumatoid arthritis (chronic inflammatory disorder affecting joints), eczema (skin inflammation), kidney problems (such as chronic kidney disease), and/or liver problems.

GEROZ INJECTION should be used with caution in pregnant women only if it is clearly necessary. It is also advised to be used with caution in breastfeeding women. The medicine is not indicated for use in children and adolescents (aged below 18 years) and is advised to be used with caution in elderly patients (aged 65 years and above) after consulting the doctor.

The most common side effects of receiving GEROZ INJECTION are changes in taste (such as metallic taste), low/high blood pressure, nausea, and/or pain/irritation/itching/discolouration at the injection site. Contact your doctor if any of these symptoms worsen.

HOW GEROZ INJECTION WORKS

GEROZ INJECTION works by replenishing iron stores in the body which helps in the synthesis of red blood cells thus treating iron deficiency in affected individuals.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

GEROZ INJECTION will be given to you only by a doctor or a nurse into a vein as an intravenous injection/infusion or into the venous line of dialysis machines in dialysis patient. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.

SIDE EFFECTS OF GEROZ INJECTION

HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS

Nausea/Vomiting:

Receive GEROZ INJECTION with/just after a meal. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating oil rich/spicy foods, sugary snacks and drinks. Avoid drinking too much liquid along with your meals, and drink slowly in between meals. Consult your doctor if the condition worsens.

Itchy Skin:

Try to pat or tap your skin instead of scratching it. Hold a damp towel to cool your skin. Wear loose clothing and avoid tight clothes, or clothes made from wool or synthetic fabrics. Avoid using perfumed soaps, deodorants or moisturizers and use a skin softener regularly.

Headache:

If GEROZ INJECTION causes headache, then take rest and drink plenty of fluids. Try to avoid drinking alcohol. Ask your doctor to recommend a painkiller. Headaches should usually go away after the first week of receiving GEROZ INJECTION. If it lasts more than a week or becomes severe, then consult and inform your doctor.

Dizziness:

Try to rest and get enough sleep. Try to avoid driving or operating any tools or machines while you feel dizzy. Limit consumption of alcohol, as it can aggravate dizziness. Consult and inform your doctor if the symptom worsens.

Diarrhoea:

Drink plenty of water and stay hydrated. Try to avoid taking any medicine on your own to treat diarrhea. Consult and inform your doctor if the symptom worsens.

Constipation:

Try to eat high-fiber foods such as vegetables, cereals, fresh fruit, and drink plenty of water. Involve in regular exercise (going for a daily walk or run) and if this does not help, consult and inform your doctor for receiving alternate treatments for constipation.

Rashes:

Do not scratch the affected area. Wear protective clothing while going outdoors. Regularly moisturize your skin. Consult and inform your doctor if the symptom gets worse.

Tiredness:

Make sure you take rest and drink plenty of fluids. Avoid or limit the consumption of alcohol. Try to receive GEROZ INJECTION at a time when you can sit down (or lie down) when the symptoms are at their worst. Avoid driving or using tools or machinery until you feel well.

A. Drug-Drug interactions:

Before receiving GEROZ INJECTION, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines:

• medicines containing iron (Ex. ferrous sulfate)

Overdosage:

GEROZ INJECTION will be administered to you only by a doctor or a nurse in a hospital, and so it is unlikely to receive an overdose. However, consult your doctor or nurse if you experience any unusual symptoms.
