What GEMITRATE 1400MG is used for?

It is used in the treatment of the following types of cancer:

  • non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), alone or together with cisplatin
  • pancreatic cancer
  • breast cancer, together with paclitaxel
  • ovarian cancer, together with carboplatin
  • bladder cancer, together with cisplatin

It is given alone or in combination with other anti-cancer medicines, depending on the type of cancer

Talk to your Doctor, if you:

  • are allergic to any of the other ingredients of this medicine
  • have kidney or liver problem
  • have or have previously had liver disease, heart disease or vascular disease
  • have recently had or are going to have radiotherapy
  • have been vaccinated recently
  • develop breathing difficulties or feel very weak and are very pale (may be a sign of kidney failure)
  • develop generalised swelling, shortness of breath or weight gain, as this may be a sign of fluid leaking from your small blood vessels into the tissue and symptoms of a serious condition called Capillary Leak Syndrome (CLS)
  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor for advice before taking this medicine
  • GEMITRATE 1400MG may make you feel sleepy, particularly if you have consumed any alcohol. Do not drive a car or use machinery until you are sure that this treatment has not made you feel sleepy

Tell your doctor if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines, including vaccinations and medicines obtained without a prescription.

  • It is administered to you by a doctor or nurse  
  • You will always receive this injection by infusion into one of your veins

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

Very Rare
  • fever or infection
  • pain, redness, swelling or sores in your mouth
  • skin rash, itching, tiredness, feeling faint, becoming easily breathless or if you look pale (might have less hemoglobin)
  • bleeding from the gums, nose or mouth or any bleeding that would not stop, reddish or pinkish urine, unexpected bruising (might have less platelets than normal)
  • low white blood cells or low platelet count
  • difficulty breathing, vomiting, nausea, headache
  • hair loss
  • blood in urine
  • anorexia (poor appetite), insomnia, sleepiness
  • constipation
  • diarrhoea
  • sweating
  • muscle or back pain
  • interstitial pneumonitis (scarring of the air sacs of the lung)
  • spasm of the airways (wheeze)
  • abnormal chest X ray/scan (scarring of the lungs)
  • skin scaling, ulceration or blister formation
  • injection site reactions
  • extreme tiredness and weakness, purpura or small areas of bleeding in the skin (bruises), acute renal failure (low urine output or no urine output)
  • thrombotic microangiopathy (clots forming in small blood vessels) and hemolytic uremic syndrome, which may be fatal
  • increased platelet count
  • sloughing of skin and severe skin blistering
