FLUZAPINE TABLET is a combination of Fluoxetine and Olanzapine which belongs to the group of medicines called Antidepressants and Antipsychotics respectively. It is used to treat depression associated with bipolar disorder in adults who are not responding to treatment with other medicines.
Bipolar disorder (also known as manic depression) is a mental disorder characterized by alternative episodes of mania (sudden unusual extreme sense of happiness) and depression. FLUZAPINE TABLET can be taken with or without meals. While taking FLUZAPINE TABLET avoid consumption of alcohol as it may make you feel drowsier.
Before taking this medicine inform your doctor if you have any liver, kidney or heart problems. You must also inform your doctor if you have bleeding problems, parkinsonism, fits, mania, dementia, diabetes, blood clots or severe dehydration as a precaution.
Do not take FLUZAPINE TABLET without consulting your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. The most common side effects of taking FLUZAPINE TABLET are problems in attention, dry mouth, constipation, sleepiness, dizziness while standing up, tiredness, increased hunger, weight gain, shakiness, increased bloods sugar or cholesterol levels, blurred vision and decreased sex drive. Consult your doctor if any of these side effects worsens.
You must also inform your doctor immediately if you experience worsening of depression along with suicidal thoughts or having severe muscle stiffness, shakiness, fever and/or chest pain as a precaution.
FLUZAPINE TABLET works by regulating the release and uptake of certain chemical messengers (dopamine and serotonin) within the brain that affects thoughts, emotions, body movements and behaviour. As a result, it improves your ability to think, controls your emotions and stabilizes your mental health.
Take FLUZAPINE TABLET as advised by your physician. It can be taken with or without meals.
Swallow the medicine with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine.
Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration of therapy for you depending upon your age, body weight and mental state.
Do not stop taking FLUZAPINE TABLET without consulting your doctor, even if you feel better during the mid-way of therapy.
Stop taking FLUZAPINE TABLET and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:
Dizziness:
Try to rest and relax. Get enough sleep. Avoid driving or operating any tools or machines completely while you are feeling dizzy. Consult your doctor if your dizziness worsens.
Constipation:
Eat plenty of fiber rich foods such as fresh fruits, vegetables and cereals. Drink plenty of fluids. Exercise more regularly. Consult your doctor if this side effect bothers you.
Nausea:
Take FLUZAPINE TABLET with or just after meals. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating oil rich or spicy foods. Consult your doctor if your nausea worsens.
Headache:
Rest and relax. Keep yourself hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids such as water or electrolytes. Applying a pain-relieving balm on your forehead can be beneficial. Do not consume excessive alcohol, as it could aggravate your headache. Consult your doctor if your headache worsens.
FLUZAPINE TABLET should be used with caution in pregnant women. Your doctor will decide whether you should use this medicine or not after evaluating the benefits and risks of the therapy.
FLUZAPINE TABLET is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women as it may pass through the breast milk to the nursing infant. Therefore, consult your doctor before taking it.
Do not drive or operate any machines if your ability is affected by FLUZAPINE TABLET.
Avoid consumption of alcohol while taking FLUZAPINE TABLET as it might make you feel drowsy or sleepy.
FLUZAPINE TABLET should be used with caution in patients with kidney problems. Therefore, consult your doctor before taking it.
FLUZAPINE TABLET should be used with caution in patients with liver problems. Therefore, consult your doctor before taking it.
