INTRODUCTION

FLUVIA 75 CAPSULE contains Oseltamivir which belongs to the group of medicines called Antivirals. It is used in adults, adolescents, children and infants (including full-term new-born babies) for the treatment of flu (influenza) and also used as preventive treatment in a global flu pandemic and when the seasonal flu vaccine may not provide sufficient protection.

FLUVIA 75 CAPSULE can be used when you have flu symptoms, and the flu virus is known to be spreading in your community. It can also be used to prevent flu in adults, adolescents, children and infants above 1 year of age, only if you have been in contact with someone affected with flu. 

FLUVIA 75 CAPSULE should be taken with caution in patients with long term respiratory or heart disease, kidney problems. Consult your doctor before taking this medicine.

FLUVIA 75 CAPSULE should be used in pregnant and breastfeeding women only if it is considered clearly necessary. Consult your doctor before taking the medicine.

FLUVIA 75 CAPSULE should be used with caution in children from 1 to 12 years of age and infants less than 1 year. It is also used with caution in elderly patients (above 65 years of age). Consult your doctor before taking this medicine.

The most common side effects of taking FLUVIA 75 CAPSULE are headache, nausea, vomiting, stomach ache, headache and pain. Contact your doctor if any of the symptoms get worse.

USES OF FLUVIA 75 CAPSULE

  • Treats flu (influenza) symptoms in adults, adolescents, children and infants (including full-term new-born babies)
  • Prevents flu in adults, adolescents, children and infants above 1 year of age (including full-term new-born babies in a flu pandemic)

HOW FLUVIA 75 CAPSULE WORKS

FLUVIA 75 CAPSULE prevents the spread of flu virus inside the body by blocking the action of chemicals required for the survival of virus. This helps to ease or prevent the symptoms of the flu virus infection.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

Take FLUVIA 75 CAPSULE as advised by your physician. Swallow FLUVIA 75 CAPSULE with a glass of water and do not crush or chew it. Take it with food to reduce the chance of nausea and vomiting.

Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and the severity of infection.

SIDE EFFECTS OF FLUVIA 75 CAPSULE

COMMON

  • nausea, vomiting, stomach ache, bloating
  • headache
  • bronchitis (lung infection)
  • signs of cold sore virus (painful, fluid-filled skin blisters)
  • cough
  • dizziness
  • fever
  • pain, limb pain
  • runny nose
  • difficulty in sleeping

  • upper respiratory tract infections (infection in nose, throat and sinuses)

  • heart rhythm abnormalities (fluttering feeling in the chest, chest pain, fainting or dizziness)
  • signs of skin reactions (inflamed, red and itchy rash, scaling skin)
  • eardrum disorder

RARE

  • disturbances in vision

Stop taking FLUVIA 75 CAPSULE and consult your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:

  • anaphylactic and anaphylactoid reactions (severe allergic reactions causing face and skin swelling, itchy rashes, low blood pressure and breathing difficulties)
  • signs of liver disorders such as fulminant hepatitis, hepatic function disorder and jaundice (yellowing of the skin and eyes, change in stool colour, behavioural changes)
  • angioneurotic oedema (sudden onset of severe swelling of the skin mainly around the head and neck area, including eyes and tongue, with breathing difficulties)
  • complicated and life life-threatening allergic reaction like Stevens-Johnson syndrome and toxic epidermal necrolysis (severe inflammation of the outer and possibly inner skin, initially with fever, sore throat and fatigue, skin rashes, leading to blisters, peeling, shedding of larger areas of skin, breathing difficulties and low blood pressure)
  • signs of gastrointestinal bleeding (prolonged bleeding from the large bowel or spitting up blood)
  • signs of neuropsychiatric disorders (convulsions and delirium with changed consciousness level, behavioural changes such as confusion, delusions, hallucinations, agitation, anxiety, nightmares, self-injury)

HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS

Headache:

Rest and relax. Drink plenty of fluids such as water or ORS (Oral Rehydrating Solution) and apply a pain-relieving balm on the head if necessary. Contact your doctor if the headache did not improve.

Nausea or vomiting:

Take FLUVIA 75 CAPSULE along with or just after meals. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating oil rich or spicy foods. If nausea and vomiting does not improve, contact your doctor.

Stomach pain:

Try to rest and relax. Eat and drink slowly or try to have smaller and frequent meals. Keep a heat pad on your stomach. If the stomach pain persists, contact your doctor.

Dizziness:

Try to rest and relax. Get enough sleep. Avoid driving or operate any machines while you are feeling dizzy. Do not drink alcohol, as it can aggravate your dizziness. Contact your doctor if your dizziness did not improve.

PREGNANCY

FLUVIA 75 CAPSULE should be used in pregnant women only if it is considered clearly necessary. Consult your doctor before taking the medicine.

BREASTFEEDING

FLUVIA 75 CAPSULE should be used in breastfeeding women only if considered necessary as it may pass through the breast milk. Consult your doctor before taking this medicine.

DRIVING AND USING MACHINES

FLUVIA 75 CAPSULE does not affect your abilities to drive or while operating machines. Consult your doctor before taking this medicine.

ALCOHOL

Avoid or limit the consumption of alcohol while taking FLUVIA 75 CAPSULE because it might make the medicine less effective.

KIDNEY

FLUVIA 75 CAPSULE should be taken with caution in patients with kidney problems and may need dose adjustment. Consult your doctor before taking this medicine.

LIVER

FLUVIA 75 CAPSULE can be used safely for treatment or for prevention in patients with hepatic dysfunction with no dose adjustment. Consult your doctor before taking FLUVIA 75 CAPSULE.

ALLERGY

Do not take FLUVIA 75 CAPSULE if you are allergic to Oseltamivir or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.

LUNGS

FLUVIA 75 CAPSULE should be taken with caution in patients with long term (chronic) respiratory disease. Consult your doctor before taking FLUVIA 75 CAPSULE.

HEART DISEASE

FLUVIA 75 CAPSULE should be taken with caution in patients with long term (chronic) heart disease. Consult your doctor before taking this medicine.

OTHERS

Before taking FLUVIA 75 CAPSULE, inform your doctor if:

  • are allergic to other medicines
  • have a severe medical condition that might require immediate hospitalisation
  • your immune system which is not working

Use in pediatrics:

FLUVIA 75 CAPSULE should be used with caution in children from 1 to 12 years of age and infants less than 1 year. There is no information on the use of FLUVIA 75 CAPSULE in paediatric patients with hepatic disorder. Consult your doctor before taking this medicine.

 Use in geriatrics:

FLUVIA 75 CAPSULE should be used with caution in elderly patients (above 65 years of age). Consult your doctor before taking this medicine.

INTERACTIONS

A. Drug - Drug interactions:

Before taking FLUVIA 75 CAPSULE, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicine:

  • chlorpropamide (a medicine used in the treatment of diabetes)
  • methotrexate (used to treat rheumatoid arthritis)
  • phenylbutazone (used to reduce pain and inflammation)
  • probenecid (a medicine used in the treatment of gout)

Overdosage:

If you or anyone else accidentally take too much of FLUVIA 75 CAPSULE, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital.

If you have trouble swallowing FLUVIA 75 CAPSULE capsules, you can use a liquid medicine. This can be made by pouring all the powder into a bowl and mix the powder with a small amount of sweetened liquid such as regular or sugar-free chocolate syrup, to cover up the bitter taste of the medicine. Give the whole contents of the bowl to the patient straight away.

What are the most common side effects of FLUVIA 75 CAPSULE?

The most common side effects of FLUVIA 75 CAPSULE are nausea and vomiting. Usually, they are not severe and happen in the first 2 days of treatment.
