EXTRUM contain cefpodoxime which belongs to a group of medicine called cephalosporin antibiotics. It is used to treat bacterial infections such as tonsillitis, pharyngitis, sinusitis, and acute otitis media, pneumonia, bronchopneumonia, acute exacerbation of chronic bronchitis, uncomplicated urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue.
The common side effects are nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhoea, loss of appetite, bloating, skin rash, skin itch, hives. EXTRUM kills the bacteria by preventing them from forming the bacterial protective covering (cell wall) which is needed for them to survive. This medicine is strictly not recommended for use in children under 4 weeks old. Check the label for directions before use. Shake well before use.
Before taking this medicine inform your doctor if you have ever had kidney disease, heart disease, liver problems. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should seek medical advice before taking this medication.
