ETOCLAV 250/50MG INJECTION contains Amoxicillin and Clavulanic acid, which belong to the group of medicines called Penicillins and Beta-Lactamase Inhibitors. It is used in children for the treatment and prophylaxis of various bacterial infections (such as respiratory tract infections, which include pneumonia), acute exacerbation of chronic bronchitis, urinary tract infections (cystitis, urethritis, pyelonephritis), bone and joint infections (osteomyelitis), middle ear infections (otitis media), tonsillitis, sinusitis, skin, and soft tissue infections such as cellulitis, boils, wound infections, intra-abdominal sepsis, dental infections, infections of genital organs in females.
Along with treatment with ETOCLAV 250/50MG INJECTION, your doctor might order bacterial culture tests to enhance the outcomes of the treatment and in cases of prolonged treatment with ETOCLAV 250/50MG INJECTION, your doctor might conduct a complete blood count, and liver or kidney function test.
ETOCLAV 250/50MG INJECTION is not recommended for use in patients with severe kidney impairment, a history of liver problems or jaundice after taking penicillin antibiotics. ETOCLAV 250/50MG INJECTION should be used with caution in patients suffering from glandular fever (a viral infection causing sore throat, high fever, swelling of salivary glands etc), liver disease, kidney disease, who are not passing urine daily, convulsions (fits) or large intestine inflammation.
ETOCLAV 250/50MG INJECTION is not recommended for use in pregnant women unless necessary. ETOCLAV 250/50MG INJECTION should be used with caution in breastfeeding women as it may pass through breast milk. ETOCLAV 250/50MG INJECTION should be used with caution in neonates, and infants (less than 12 weeks of age). The most common side effects after receiving ETOCLAV 250/50MG INJECTION are diarrhoea, thrush (fungal infection), etc. Consult your doctor immediately in case any of the side effects worsen.
ETOCLAV 250/50MG INJECTION helps in treating bacterial infection where Amoxicillin works by inhibiting penicillin-binding proteins (which are involved in the synthesis of the bacterial cell wall) leading to the activation of autolytic enzymes in the bacterial cell wall. Therefore, leading to lysis of the cell wall and death of the bacterial cell and Clavulanic acid inhibits the activity of bacterial enzymes known as beta-lactamases and hence enhances the antibacterial activity of amoxicillin.
ETOCLAV 250/50MG INJECTION will be given to you only by a doctor or a nurse into a vein as an intravenous infusion or intravenous injection. Your doctor will decide the exact dose and duration of treatment for you depending on your age, body weight and disease condition.
