What is Eplerenone used for?

Eplerenone is prescribed to treat high blood pressure (hypertension), which, if left untreated, can lead to stroke, heart failure or kidney failure. Besides hypertension, this drug is also prescribed to treat congestive heart failure following a heart attack. This medicine may also be used to treat other conditions as determined by your doctor.

How to take Eplerenone?

The dosage of Eplerenone prescribed to each patient will vary. Always follow your physician’s instructions and/or the directions on the prescription drug label. The following dosage information includes the common dose of Eplerenone. If your dose is different, do not follow the dosage described below unless your physician has approved.

The recommended dosage of Eplerenone is usually once or twice daily. This medication can be taken by mouth with or without food. It must be taken regularly and should be continued despite feeling well. The complete effect of this drug can be felt after four weeks of its consumption.

If your physician has instructed or directed you to take Eplerenone medication in a regular schedule and you have missed a dose of this medicine, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, instead skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not double the doses unless otherwise directed.

Any medication taken in excess can have serious consequences. If you suspect an overdose, seek medical attention immediately. Some of the overdose symptoms of Eplerenone include severe muscle weakness, severe dizziness and irregular heartbeat.
